Symbolically Isolated Linguistically Variable Intelligence Algorithms (SILVIA) is a core platform technology developed by Cognitive Code. SILVIA was developed and designed to recognize and interpret speech and text, and interact with applications and operating systems. The technology can operate from the cloud, as a mobile application, as part of a network, or on servers.{{cite magazine|url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/karstenstrauss/2012/07/09/riding-the-wave-of-artificial-intelligence/|title=Riding the Wave of Artificial Intelligence|magazine=Forbes|date=July 9, 2012|accessdate=May 25, 2013|author=Strauss, Karsten|pages=1–2|archive-date=July 30, 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130730142817/http://www.forbes.com/sites/karstenstrauss/2012/07/09/riding-the-wave-of-artificial-intelligence/|url-status=live}}

=Features=

SILVIA was developed to recognize and interpret any human interaction through text, speech, and any other human input. The platform allows an application of it in all applicable and possible applications, which then allows natural and intuitive human interaction. It has a set of graphical user interface tools which can aid in developing intelligent objects or entities and has an array of API scripts that can be embedded in any compatible applications.{{cite web|url=https://www.engadget.com/2007/09/17/cognitive-code-shows-off-silvia-artificial-intelligence-platform/|title=Cognitive Code shows off SILVIA artificial intelligence platform|publisher=Engadget|date=September 17, 2007|accessdate=May 30, 2013|author=Melanson, Donald|archive-date=June 22, 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130622050224/http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/17/cognitive-code-shows-off-silvia-artificial-intelligence-platform/|url-status=live}}

The platform can be used in different computing platforms and operating systems, which allows easy transfer of data.{{cite news|url=http://venturebeatprofiles.com/company/profile/cognitive-code/|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20100213181859/http://venturebeatprofiles.com/company/profile/cognitive-code|url-status=usurped|archive-date=February 13, 2010|title=Cognitive Code|work=VentureBeat|accessdate=May 30, 2013}} SILVIA uses a non-command-based system wherein inputs are based on normal human conversational language, not on pre-coded commands like what Google's Google Now and Apple Inc.'s Siri used.

=Components=

SILVIA is composed of several components:

  • SILVIA Core: A runtime engine which can be configurable for use for any user, server, or mobile system. It can also be embedded.{{cite web|url=http://cognitivecode.com/|title=Components of the SILVIA Technology|publisher=Cognitive Code|accessdate=May 30, 2013|archive-date=December 17, 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121217095858/http://cognitivecode.com/|url-status=live}}
  • SILVIA Server: A configurable system of SILVIA Cores for automated management.
  • SILVIA Voice: A modular component designed for accepting voice input and rendering voice output. It can be used within an application, web page, or as part of SILVIA server for optimization of media streaming.
  • SILVIA API: Programmers are allowed to create applications and plug-in-based functionality.
  • SILVIA Studio: A graphical system for application-specific behavior development.

=Use=

SILVIA can be used in several applications, including call centers, smart phones like the iPhone and Android devices, and voice search or other voice-related applications. SILVIA responds to its users in complete sentences.{{cite web|url=http://dondodge.typepad.com/the_next_big_thing/2007/09/techcrunch40--1.html|title=TechCrunch40 - First 10 companies|publisher=Don Dodge on The Next Big Thing|date=September 17, 2007|accessdate=May 29, 2013|author=Dodge, Don|author-link=Don Dodge|archive-date=June 21, 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130621222616/http://dondodge.typepad.com/the_next_big_thing/2007/09/techcrunch40--1.html|url-status=live}}

SILVIA has been used by companies such as Northrop Grumman. Northrop Grumman used the technology in order to aid the company's employees to communicate with computers and mobile devices using natural language.{{cite web|url=http://www.speechtechmag.com/Articles/?ArticleID=67168|title=Cognitive Code is Approved Vendor for Northrop Grumman|publisher=Speech Technology|date=May 12, 2010|accessdate=May 30, 2013|archive-date=July 2, 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170702104917/http://www.speechtechmag.com/Articles/?ArticleID=67168|url-status=dead}} The company also utilizes the technology in the development and military training applications deployment.{{cite news|url=http://www.ibtimes.com/press-release/20100512/cognitive-code-approved-vendor-northrop-grumman-561694|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160204092843/http://www.ibtimes.com/press-release/20100512/cognitive-code-approved-vendor-northrop-grumman-561694|url-status=dead|archive-date=February 4, 2016|title=Cognitive Code is Approved Vendor for Northrop Grumman|newspaper=International Business Times|accessdate=May 30, 2013}} As of 2012, SILVIA had been considered for use in training and simulation applications for the US Military.{{cite web|url=http://www.tuttoandroid.net/android/silvia-per-android-assistente-vocale-nativo-50472/|title=SILVIA per Android, assistente vocale nativo per smartphone e tablet|publisher=TuttoAndroid|date=May 31, 2012|accessdate=May 30, 2013|language=Italian|archive-date=November 6, 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121106060324/http://www.tuttoandroid.net/android/silvia-per-android-assistente-vocale-nativo-50472|url-status=live}}{{cite web|url=http://www.phonearena.com/news/SILVIA-project-for-Android-aims-to-topple-Siri-and-S-Voice_id30770|title=SILVIA project for Android aims to topple Siri and S Voice|publisher=Phone Arena|date=May 31, 2012|accessdate=May 30, 2013|author=Daniel P.|archive-date=July 4, 2012|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120704193426/http://www.phonearena.com/news/SILVIA-project-for-Android-aims-to-topple-Siri-and-S-Voice_id30770|url-status=live}}
