:@LIANG06 Very good. You can publish it after you finish the translation, just like you did with your first article on sport fandom.

DEADLINE5-BAILINHAN

Hello professor, I have created my article, please check Bai0926 (talk) 13:28, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

:@Bai0926: Good, but your article needs many fixes. Please study my feedback from last time carefully - there are many things I pointed out back then that are not fixed: User_talk:Hanyangprofessor2/Archive_5#deadline4(week5):_BAI_LINHAN

:Remember that all paragraphs need to be referenced, otherwise they will not count for our project and may be deleted from Wikipedia (per our syllabus and Wikipedia:Verifiability).

:Please review the policy on how to use Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking. You have next to no blue links in the body, but you have (incorrect) links in the headings (which should have no links).

:Your article needs a proper lead: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section". Right now instead of a summary of the article, you have a discussion of the meaning of superstition in Chinese, and it is rather poorly written. Interpretation of linguistic meaning of "superstition" in Chinese reads like an essay, not a Wikipedia article. It is also cited to a book - without page number. Discussing a dictionary (?) definition of a word is not encyclopedic. This entire section should be deleted, unless you can show me that the book has a useful discussion on the meanings of the word superstition in Chinese language. Here is a suggest draft of a lead - but make sure the information is repeated and referenced in the article body! "Superstition in China refers to a set of traditional beliefs and practices centered on the supernatural, including gods, ghosts, fate, and ritual magic. These beliefs have evolved from ancient totem worship and ancestor veneration in early dynasties to a complex system of folk religion influenced by Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism. Despite the rise of modern science and education, superstitious practices continue to influence aspects of Chinese culture, particularly in festivals, daily customs, and healing rituals.

:Poor grammar and phrasing are in issue too. Sentences like "Superstition, refers to the belief..." are grammatically incorrect and read awkwardly. I see frequent errors (e.g., missing spaces, comma splices, lowercase proper nouns). Use concise, formal tone, and avoid overuse of figurative language. Please use a tool like Grammarly or similar to revise your work.

:Section headers are inconsistent. Use sentence case, not all lowercase (e.g., xia, zhou, qin) → should be “Xia dynasty” etc. Avoid long section titles, as they don't look nice in the Table of Contents. Consider a consistent structure like: “Beliefs in the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties”. Avoid empty or underdeveloped sections: Sections on Wang Mang, Yang Guifei, and Cixi are titled but lack content. Either expand or remove them temporarily until they're properly developed. Ensure every section adds encyclopedic value and has a comprehensive overview, not just anecdotal examples.

:Use of non-neutral or interpretative language is bad. Phrases like “This gave people the illusion of death and resurrection” or “strong function of public opinion guidance” should be rewritten in neutral tone, such as “This hibernation cycle was interpreted by early observers as symbolic of death and rebirth.” and “These prophecies were used as political tools to influence public perception.” Avoid drawing personal conclusions or stating what "people thought" without reliable, secondary sources - read also Wikipedia:No original research.

:Sites like Sohu.com or QDU university student articles are not ideal for supporting historical claims. Prefer peer-reviewed journals, academic books or official museum or heritage sites You may use Chinese-language academic works, but they must be from reliable publishers (e.g., CNKI articles, university press books).

:You can also ask for feedback on your article to AI or other Wikipedia editors (in the Wikipedia:Teahouse). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:39, 25 April 2025 (UTC)

::Professor, I changed my article according to your suggestion and added a new editor, and added the same section with reference to superstitions in Russia: Customs regarded as superstitions. Please check. Bai0926 (talk) 14:24, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Good progress. Please fix the following:

:::* what is the 'Summarize' section at the bottom? It appears to be another version of the lead. Please merge it there, keeping in mind that the lead should be just a summary of the article and should not contain any new content

:::* Page numbers are still missing for cited books like GU ZHEGANG (1999). Remember that each and any book cited should make it clear which pages contain the relevant information. You should provide quotation for the key facts

:::* Your existing references should be properly formatted with metadata - most are missing author, date, and English (translated) title, for example, and have a wrong publisher listed (such as web.archive.org, which is not the publisher, but an archival service). Please make sure your references that are not originally in English (Korean, Chinese, etc.) have both the original title (under title parameter) and translated one (English, under translated title parameter).

:::* some headings are still lowercase (e.g., “xia”). Others could still be simplified (e.g., “Qin and Han Dynasties to Tang and Song Dynasties: Fusion of…” - consider splitting or shortening)

:::* Don’t rely on sites like Sohu or student articles. Prefer CNKI, books, or reliable academic web sources.

:::* Please explain to me how is this a correct reference. You write: ""Fuxi, one of the Three Sovereigns and the cultural progenitor of the Chinese people in ancient legends, was also known as 'Huangxiong', making him the earliest recorded creator god in Chinese history."" but according to my translation, the Sohu article does not mention Fuxi or the term “Huangxiong.”; it also does not state that any figure is the “earliest recorded creator god.”

:::* Similar problem -you write: "Moreover, the ancestors of Xia—Gun, Yu, and Qi—were all said to have transformed into bears after death." This claim is not found in the referenced article. The only thing mentioned is the general importance of bear totems, not any specific mythological transformations of Gun, Yu, or Qi. This claim needs a solid academic source (preferably mythological or historical texts) or should be deleted.

:::* "In the Classic of Mountains and Seas... descriptions of ‘closing in winter’ and ‘opening in summer’ actually record the hibernation behavior of bears... giving them an illusion of 'death and resurrection.' This cyclical behavior gradually endowed bears with divine significance in the minds of early humans." The article references a general bear myth and seasonal changes, but does not mention hibernation, death/resurrection metaphors, or symbolic interpretations. This violates Wikipedia:No original research — unless there’s a scholarly citation connecting bear hibernation to "resurrection" beliefs in ancient China, this needs to be removed or properly sourced.

:::* The first paragraph of the 'Yangshao' section is unreferenced.

:::* As far as I can tell from my translation of that source, the general cultural importance and archaeological features of Yangshao Culture are well-supported — but the claim that these artifacts “contain rich traces of totemic beliefs” is unsupported by this reference. Please double check and add a better reference, remove that claim, or explain to me how the text supports it

:@ZHANG0822ZH Your draft at :zh:User:ZHANG0822ZH/公民新闻 seems good and can be published; but your other draft was incorrectly developed on English Wikipedia rather than Chinese Wikipedia - you need to move it there, fix any code problems after move (and ensure blue links work), then ask me for a review again.

:Before publishing, please review the following:

:* Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. On Chinese, use :zh:Template:Interlanguage link multi . Stop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.

:* When your translation is finished you can publish it (move it the mainspace). See Wikipedia:Moving a page for how to do this.

:* After publishing your article, please add categories (see bottom of the original articles for categories and try to add similar one to your article).

:* Please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it.

:* You should also link the article to the original version you are translating it from by clicking the "Add interlanguage links" button - see here for how to to it: Help:Interlanguage links - Wikipedia

Deadline 5 (Week 9) - Fatima Paulina Lopez Diaz

Dear Professor,

These are my two Wikipedia articles ready for review.

South Korea and the United Nations.

North Korea and the United Nations.

Thank you. Fatimald (talk) 12:20, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

:Good progress. Here is some feedback:

:For both articles:

:* Clarify the context of simultaneous admission of both Koreas in 1991 and its significance. Why both Koreas were addmitted only in 1991?

:* Incorproate relevant content from Korea and the United Nations

:* there is some unnecessary use of bolded text. Review Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Text formatting and fix this - mostly just remove bold font

:* The current lead is short and somewhat vague; it should be a concise summary of the entire article, not just a brief note. It should succinctly summarize the article’s key points. For example, for the South, it should summarize the UN’s role in Korea’s establishment, the Korean War, observer status, full membership, and major areas of UN engagement. Read Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section.

:* Use shorter, standard Wikipedia section headings (e.g., "History," "Membership," "Contributions to UN," "Peacekeeping Operations") for clarity and alignment with similar articles, which you should review to compare your work with

:* use of and bold in the title is unnecessary. Wikipedia article titles are automatically formatted. Use standard heading syntax (== Heading ==).

:* Avoid overlinking: Link only the first occurrence of major terms (e.g., "Republic of Korea," "United Nations," "Korean War").

:* Mention when Korea's served as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, or held other important positions.

:* Mention inter-Korean cooperation at the UN (ex. Panmunjom Declaration). (It's ok if some content is the same in both your articles; if it is relevant to both)

:For the South:

:* Many references are from South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is okay for dry facts about South Korea's policies, but Wikipedia prefers mixing sources: academic articles, independent journalism, or UN reports, to enhance neutrality by showing how independent sources discuss this topic

:* Convert the link at the end of "Development and Humanitarian Aid" to a proper footnote

:* Use bullet points sparingly. For "Key areas of engagement," consider prose or a concise table for clarity.

:* Ensure images have appropriate captions and are relevant. The current map image is generic; consider one more specific to Korea’s UN involvement if available.

:* Expand coverage where necessary, especially regarding peacekeeping (you should mention the Sangnoksu Unit, for example), hosting of major UN events in Seoul (e.g., GGGI headquarters), Security Council roles, etc,

:* Incorporate all relevant content from Korea_and_the_United_Nations#South_Korea_and_the_UN_(1991–present)

:* Add a "See also" section linking to related articles (e.g., "Foreign relations of South Korea," "North Korea and the United Nations," "United Nations Command") to

:For the North:

:* middle of your article has no references, please add them

:* Format your references. "Document Viewer" as a title is too vague — readers should know what the document is; each citation should specify the resolution title (e.g., UN Security Council Resolution 1718 (2006), not just “Document Viewer”).

:* Using ==== (four equal signs) for small sections like "Humanitarian Cooperation" is usually unnecessary unless the structure is very complex. Stick to ===Subsections=== under each major ==Heading==.

:* use academic references, not just UN documents. Ex. https://ciaotest.cc.columbia.edu/journals/ijoks/v1i1/f_0013371_10868.pdfYou can also cite independent reporting (e.g., BBC, Al Jazeera, etc.)

:* incorporate relevant content from Korea_and_the_United_Nations#North_Korea_and_the_UN_(1991–present)

:* It's important to discuss how North Korea did not seek UN membership for decades, insisting it was the sole legitimate government of Korea, and only shifted its position in 1991 as Cold War dynamics changed

:* Discuss the challenges UN agencies like WHO face in North Korea. What makes operating there difficult? How long have WFP, WHO, and UNICEF been active? Add examples of projects (e.g., emergency nutrition support, disaster response?)

:* Discuss why North Korea has not contributed troops to UN peacekeeping missions [https://www.nknews.org/2015/05/north-koreas-million-man-army-potential-peacekeeping-force/ Interesting article here]

:* ?No mention of UN human rights reports The UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in North Korea (2014) is a major part of North Korea–UN relations and is missing here.

:* Try to list the most important North Korea-related resolutions, and link to the relevant lists such as List of United Nations Security Council resolutions concerning North Korea

:* See Also: Add links to related articles (e.g., "Foreign relations of North Korea," "Sanctions against North Korea," "North Korea and weapons of mass destruction").

::South Korea and the United Nations

::North Korea and the United Nations Fatimald (talk) 05:18, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Excellent progress. Here are the things to fix now:

:::for the SK article:

:::* Lead needs slight expansion and polish. It should better summarize: UNTCOK and the role in post-WWII division, Korean War & UN intervention, Observer status, Full membership, Major areas of UN engagement

:::* Minor grammar/wording edits are still necessary throughout (e.g., “helped funding the support needed by the UNDP on 2024” → “provided funding to support the UNDP in 2024”). Long sentences (e.g., about Security Council service) should be broken into shorter, clearer prose. The sentence: “... although a formal peace treaty has never been signed, there are other efforts among the Korea's...” should be split and rephrased. Also, correct: Koreas not Korea's.

:::* Image caption: “Participation of South Korea in the United Nations” is too generic. Specify the context of the image (e.g., the “Women, Peace, and Security Symposium in 2023” or similar).

:::* Most references are still South Korean government sources. Consider adding at least: A UN report or data dashboard (e.g., UN Peacekeeping factsheet), some independent news coverage of Korea's UN engagement, and preferably, at least one scholarly paper about Korea’s international diplomacy through the UN

:::* replace reference 7 - Wikipedia cannot cite itself. If reusing content from another Wikipedia articles, just use the same citations (copy them)

:::for the NK article

:::* the lead should briefly summarize: Historical stance of DPRK on the UN (initial rejection of dual membership) UN’s role in humanitarian and sanctions measures, and the current state of relations (limited cooperation, ongoing tensions)

:::* “Among 2006 and 2017” this is unclear. Should probably be something like this: “Between 2006 and 2017, the Security Council adopted multiple resolutions...”

:::* reference 9 has some strange formatting errors, please check and fix

:::* replace reference 6 - Wikipedia cannot cite itself

:::* some references have incomplete metadata, missing author, publisher, and/or date.

:::* optional: the following is missing and would be very good to add, if you can find references for this: DPRK’s use of UN forums for propaganda - A few sentences could mention how North Korea has used the UN General Assembly or Human Rights Council to make political statements, often denying human rights allegations or criticizing the U.S.

::::::Dear Professor, here are the changes I made:

::::::South Korea and the United Nations:

::::::- Lead includes the UNTCOK, Korean War & UN intervention, Observer status, Full membership, Major areas of UN engagement.

::::::- Divided the longer sentences and simplified them (eg. “South Korea (officially the Republic of Korea) has had a longstanding relationship with the United Nations since the end of World War II.” ---> “South Korea (officially the Republic of Korea) has engaged with the United Nations since the end of World War II.

::::::- Specified the context of the image caption.

::::::- Deleted Wikipedia as source and included four independent news on the Engagement section. For the scholarly papers I included reference 5, 13 and 14.

::::::North Korea and the United Nations:

::::::- Lead mentions the historical stance of DPRK on the UN, UN’s sanctions measures, and the current state of relations (limited cooperation, ongoing tensions).

::::::- Changed “Among 2006 and 2017” to “Between 2006 and 2017, the Security Council adopted multiple resolutions...”

::::::- Deleted Wikipedia citation and put more information on the citation I did manually.

::::::I had some issues cutting the long sentences since the translating tools I was using didn't help so I used AI to help me. Also, from reference 15 to 19 in the NK article I added as much information as I could find in the documents, please tell me if it's enough to meet the Wikipedia guideliness.

::::::Please let me know if this version is ready to publish. Thank you! Fatimald (talk) 13:07, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

Deadline5(Week 9)-TANG BIYAO

Dear professor, I am studying Everyday Life and Social Structure in Practice.Formed a group with YUE SHUYU. I have completed the translation of one [https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%A0%AD%E5%9F%8E%E9%96%8B%E6%88%90%E5%AF%BA%E5%9F%8E%E9%9A%8D%E5%BB%9F article] in Sandbox. zh to En: Sandbox Please check and give corrections, thank you. Tby0204 (talk) 13:28, 28 April 2025 (UTC)

:@Tby0204 Good progress. Here are some suggestions for the next steps, applicable to all your articles.

:The link to Wusha in your lead needs to be disambiguated.

:Comment section should be renamed to "Notes". See MOS:NOTES.

:Remove improper bolding from headings. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Text formatting. Remove redundant or malformed markup (e.g., broken references, stray periods). Some formatting artifacts remain in the text body (e.g., “the seventh lunar monthref name.”).

:You need to translate references. Your existing references should be properly formatted with metadata - most are missing author, date, and English (translated) title, for example, and have a wrong publisher listed (such as web.archive.org, which is not the publisher, but an archival service). Please make sure your references that are not originally in English (Korean, Chinese, etc.) have both the original title (under title parameter) and translated one (English, under translated title parameter). That also implies to works mentioned in text, like "In his 1934 book "Taiwan's Old Customs of Weddings, Funerals and Festivals During the Year", Suzuki Seiichiro". If this book is in Chinese, provide its Chinese title. (Or is it Japanese?).

:Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. On English, use Template:Interlanguage link. I fixed some for you, but check if there are any others. Stop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.

:Please double check your translation. A Chinese speaker I consulted pointed to literal translation errors or awkwardness in many places lead to errors like misleading meanings (e.g., "Grasping Orphan activity" for 搶孤) - it should probably be “Orphan Snatching Festival” or just “Qianggu Festival”. Inconsistent or confusing terminology appears (e.g., “fictive name” for “pseudonym”, or . "Paper-made figures" instead of “paper effigies”). There are also redundant and grammatically broken sentences like at the very begining, "The Toucheng Kaicheng Temple Chenghuang Temple, It is a Guanyin Temple and City God Temple...". "isCity God of Anxi,See the revolving lantern display of temple photos." doesn't make sense. Why is the word structure capitalized in the heading "Organizational Structure"? “Main meeting, main altar, main Jiaoju” this should be explained or translated into standard English equivalents. What is Jiaoju? What is Qianggu? Such concepts need to be linked or explained. “Dou Shou” (斗首) is never explained (you should link it or add explanation in a comment like “The ‘Dou Shou’ were community leaders responsible for organizing ritual tasks during the festival.”)

:You can use new tools like advanced AI platforms to receive personalized feedback on the quality of your translation and its adherence to Wikipedia policies. Come to my office if you'd like a demonstration Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 07:12, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Deadline5(week9): ZHOUZIYU

Hello professor, I am in studying Everyday Life and Social Structure. I have finished translating my first article and after obtaining your approval, I submitted it to Wikipedia. But after I revised the article many times based on the suggestions of the volunteers, he told me that my translated article you chose for me was not suitable for publication on Wikipedia. Now I don't know what to do and I really hope to get your help. The fact that the first article couldn't be published has led to the second article I translated also being unable to be posted on my sandbox.

This is my sandbox and this is my article.I really need your assistance. I would be extremely grateful if I could get your help. Zzzzzhouziyu (talk) 08:43, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

:@Zzzzzhouziyu I see. I will be happy to help.

:First, note that you can have multiple sandbox. Post your second translation in your second sandbox - it doesn't have to be in your first sandbox.

:Regarding your translation problems. I see you received reviews from Chinese Wikipedia reviewers. Did you attempt to talk to any of the reviewers, as they have themselves suggested you? I looked at your edits on Chinese Wikipedia at User contributions by Zzzzzhouziyu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and I do not see discussion posts made by you.

:One of the problems you are likely facing, as evidenced by the most recent comment from the reviewer, is that you have some content in your article that is unreferenced. As noted in the syllabus and the description of our project: "Remember that all paragraphs need to be referenced, otherwise they will not count for our project and may be deleted from Wikipedia (per our syllabus and Wikipedia:Verifiability)." You need to find references for the unreferenced section of your translation, or delete them.

:Wasn't this already explained to you by the reviewer SuperGrey in his comment on April 23, 2025? Was something unclear? Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 07:22, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

::Dear Professor, I have revised my translation as per your request. I have ensured that each paragraph of my article has more than one citation and re-submitted it after checking these citations. However, the volunteers still believe that my translation does not meet the Wikipedia guidelines. I have also left messages on different discussion pages for them. The volunteers think that the English version of this article itself is not suitable for publication on Wikipedia because it is too subjective and of low quality. Therefore, my translation cannot be published on Wikipedia either. Maybe can I change to another article and then I'll retranslate it?My second article is already under review by the volunteers. This is my first article, and it has been unable to pass the review. I sincerely hope to receive your help. Thank you! Zzzzzhouziyu (talk) 08:57, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

:::@Zzzzzhouziyu You can change the topic, yes, but you put a good amount of work into your current translation, and I think the fixes needed should not be major. Did you attempt to add references or remove the unreferenced parts? Can you point me to the place you have discussed this issue with the reviewers, particularly since my feedback and suggestions above? I will take a look. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 12:59, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

::::Dear Professor, following your advice, I have made extensive improvements to the article. Due to the scarcity of references on abortion in India, I was unable to find additional sources. However, I have carefully reviewed all the existing references, checked them and removed the unsuitable ones, ensuring that each paragraph of my article now has appropriate references. As for the volunteers, I left my questions on their discussion page, but no one replied. Moreover, they prohibited me from resubmitting the article, stating that it did not meet Wikipedia's inclusion standards. They informed me that if I wanted to contribute to the topic of abortion in India, I would need to rewrite the article completely. This is Discuss This is my first article, this is my sandbox, and my second one is currently under review. I think I might really need to choose a different article to complete your assignment. So, could you please recommend a third article for me to translate? Thank you very much! Zzzzzhouziyu (talk) 14:28, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

::::I truly believe that I have done my utmost to make this article conform to the standards of Wikipedia. But it still didn't pass the review. Zzzzzhouziyu (talk) 14:32, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

:::::@Zzzzzhouziyu I see. In this case, how about translating this article - Bosnian genocide denial? Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 12:33, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

::::::Dear Professor, I'm very sorry to trouble you again. Could I change to another article? Because this one shows Parsoid error many times when published. This article seems unable to be published. Zzzzzhouziyu (talk) 14:41, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

:::::::@Zzzzzhouziyu This seems like a technical error we can fix in my office; stop by it on M or F and we will see about it, or choose another topic if all else fails. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:37, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Deadline 5 (Week 9) - Yeonseo Koo (구연서)

Dear Professor,

I am taking Everyday Life and Social Structure (class A) and Collective Intelligence in Practice at the same time.

I have finished translating these articles.

For Everyday Life and Social Structure:

German atrocities committed against prisoners of war during World War II to Korean version

Soviet atrocities committed against prisoners of war during World War II to Korean version

For Collective Intelligence in Practice:

I previously chose Online hate speech and American Sociological Association, but there were already Korean versions.

So I worked on these two articles related to this class but not yet translated into Korean.

Propaganda through media to Korean version

Mass media and American politics to Korean version

I reflected the change in our spreadsheet and my dashboard.

All my Korean articles are complete and ready to be published. Am I allowed to move these to the mainspace?

Please check. Thank you.

An attempt to translate the Wikipedia entry on science fiction

Dear Professor:

I have completed the translation of two articles. During the translation process, I noticed that the Chinese Wikipedia lacks some relevant content. Since I am very interested in science fiction, I hope to try to translate an English article into Chinese. On the one hand, I can practice my translation skills, and on the other hand, I hope to contribute to enriching the content of the Chinese page. If you can give me guidance or feedback, I will be very grateful. I look forward to your reply and thank you for your time! WUXIAOTONG Bancy (talk) 05:30, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

:@WUXIAOTONG Bancy I am glad to hear it. In fact, I am also very interested in science fiction, and I work with many volunteers here to improve this topic area. Time travel in fiction is an important topic, but it is not a very good article right now (it's not bad, but it's not good - which is why it is assessed on talk as a C-class). You can translate it - but it will need to be fixed and improved eventually, as the original English article will need to be revised.

:In related context, just few weeks ago we created a better (if pretty short) entry on Time machine, which seems to be missing from zh wiki and would be a good and easy topic to translate.

:For another short article, here are few things I wrote up recently: Artificial planet and Inner space (science fiction)

:You can find lists of very good sf-related articles to potentially translate at [https://wp1.openzim.org/#/project/Science_fiction/articles?quality=FA-Class Wikipedia 1.0 Server - Science_fiction FA articles] and [https://wp1.openzim.org/#/project/Science_fiction/articles?quality=GA-Class Wikipedia 1.0 Server - Science_fiction GA articles] .

:Feel free to stop by my office if you'd like to chat more about improving SF content on Wikipedia. Live long and prosper :) Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 13:21, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

Deadline 5 (Week 9)- GUAN YUE

Dear Professor,

I am currently taking Everyday Life and Social Structure and Collective Intelligence in Practice. I've mostly finished the two main articles for the course — Maxim's Bakery and Cognitive warfare — both translated from Chinese to English.

I also worked on five articles for extra credit: Wu Shun Tak, Maxim's MX, Maxim's Bakery, Traditional Chinese sausages, and Stir-fried glutinous rice. You can see all my edits here.

Feel free to take a look whenever you have time!

Thanks! Uuueol (talk) 07:25, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Uuueol Very good. Here are my comments:

:* When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page. If your article is in Chinese, please add :zh:Template:Educational assignment to its talk page. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page (if the translation is to English), or :zh:Template:Translated page (if it is in Chinese)

:Regarding Maxim's Bakery - the zh article has images - can you add them to the English translation? Also

:* it would be good to add Template:Infobox company to it. Ask me for help in my office or in class if you have trouble with that

:* Expand the lead to briefly mention its founding year, parent company (Maxim’s Caterers), notable distribution model (e.g., MTR presence), and any milestones. A 2–3 sentence paragraph is expected per Wikipedia:Lead_section.

:* Avoid "Currently" in “Currently, there are 148 outlets…” — Wikipedia avoids time-sensitive language. Use "As of [year]" or provide a specific date. What is current today may not be tommorrow

:* Use either “Maxim’s Cakes” or “Maxim’s Bakery” consistently. Consult official materials from the company or English source coverage to check which one is better. Double check your capitalization is consistent.

:* Consider separating incident reporting into a more standard titled section (e.g., ==Controversies== or ==Notable incidents== rather than just ==Incident==).

:* Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. On English, use Template:Interlanguage link. Stop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.

:* Add navigation aids, such as ==See also== with internal links (already done nicely in the Chinese version).

:One of your articles was merged to another by another volunteer. You may want to discuss this at Talk:Chinese sticky rice - Wikipedia

:Regarding Wu Shun Tak - the lead is too short. It should explain why Wu Shun Tak is notable. Mention: his role as co-founder of Maxim’s, his business impact, and his educational philanthropy. Read and follow WP:LEAD (Manual of Style/Lead section).

:Don't list relatives unless sourced and relevant. Encyclopedias are not genealogies.

:Some phrases are too honorific or subjective for Wikipedia: “Renowned industrialist” → better as “Chinese industrialist” “A respected and honorable legacy” (from a source) should not be echoed in Wikipedia’s voice. Replace phrases like “devoted to public welfare” with factual content, e.g., “He donated to Tsinghua University and founded a school in Taishan.” Follow WP:NPOV (Neutral Point of View) and WP:TONE for encyclopedic writing.

:In Memorials section, citations should not be in the heading, but at the end of each bullet point or paragraph (if relevant to it).

:For Maxim's MX - add images. That translation includes many paragraphs marked with {{FACT}} tags in the Chinese original. These indicate unsourced or unverifiable claims. On English Wikipedia, such material should be removed per WP:V unless a reliable source can be found. Examples include the “御膳” project, the microwave meals in 7-11 and Wellcome, and rebranding efforts from 2015 or 2022. Suggested fix: remove these paragraphs entirely or mark them clearly for future citation (e.g., in your sandbox) if you plan to add sources later.

:The current translation uses some non-neutral language such as “brought a refreshing dining experience” or “remarkable success.” This violates WP:NPOV (Neutral Point of View). Suggested fix: rewrite with factual and neutral phrasing, e.g., “introduced Japanese set meals alongside Chinese and Western dishes” or “following positive customer response.”

:As for Traditional Chinese sausages: The translated article omits the entire "Health concerns" and "International variants" sections, both of which are present in the Chinese version. While most of the article is factual, some parts lean slightly into promotional or subjective phrasing. For example: "giving it a distinctive aroma and taste" would better phrased as: "infusing the rice with the sausage’s characteristic flavor." The lead could be expanded with a short sentence on regional variants or international recognition (e.g., its use in Southeast Asian Chinese diasporas). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 14:00, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

::Thank you for the feedback! I’ve gone through all the points you mentioned and made the necessary changes. For the parts in the Chinese version that were marked with [citation needed], I left them out of the English article since I couldn’t find reliable sources, following Wikipedia’s verifiability policy.

::I’ve also made sure to use “Maxim’s Cakes” consistently throughout the article, based on the company’s official materials. Since I can’t move the article myself, I’ve posted a message on the talk page to ask an admin for help with renaming it. Uuueol (talk) 08:52, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

::About one of my additional articles — it was merged into Chinese sticky rice by another editor. I’m fine with the merge and my content is still part of the article. Just wanted to check if this can still count toward my extra article. Uuueol (talk) 09:14, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

:::@Uuueol Regarding moving Maxim's Cakes, please follow the procedure for requesting a move as outlined at Wikipedia:Requested moves.

:::Regarding the merged content, yes, it counts for your credit. You may want to join the discussion at the talk page of talk:Chinese_sticky_rice#Merge_from_Stir-fried_glutinous_rice and tell us whether these two dishes are the same or not. If they are the same, you can get extra points for proposing a merge on zh wiki by following procedures at https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:%E5%90%88%E5%B9%B6%E9%A1%B5%E9%9D%A2 Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 06:17, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Week 9---FAN XINRU

Hello professor, I am FAN XINRU,  taking the course Everyday Life & Understanding Wikipedia. This article was chosen by me as the final task for the course expansion, but I have now found that I have encountered difficulties in expanding, such as difficulty in determining where to add more content or what sections to add. There is one more thing I would like to ask the professor. The task I have chosen is to be done alone rather than in groups of two people, but I remember my form was filled with two articles as the final task. May I ask Professor, do I need to expand both articles according to the form or choose one of them as my individual task? Sorry for raising so many questions, thank you for the professor's review and guidance. Jzhdylb (talk) 06:14, 3 May 2025 (UTC)

:: Good progress. Here are some suggestions for the next steps, applicable to all your articles.

:: Complete the translation by adding the remaining content and references. Remember that all paragraphs need to be referenced, otherwise they will not count for our project and may be deleted from Wikipedia (per our syllabus and Wikipedia:Verifiability).

:: Double check you blue links. Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. :: Can you add some pictures to the article? In particular, the peace flag seems to be missing any images. Ideally, you would find some on Wikimedia Commons.

:: When your translation is finished, if you are creating a new article, you can publish it (move it the mainspace). See Wikipedia:Moving a page for how to do this. If you are expanding an existing article, see WP:MERGE instead.

Deadline 5(week 9)SHAO TIANYI1&ZHONG QI

Dear professor,

I am taking Social Structure of Everyday Life and Collective Intelligence with Zhong Qi.

Here is the article we have completed translating:

https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%A5%B3%E6%80%A7%E4%B8%BB%E7%BE%A9%E6%AD%B7%E5%8F%B2

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Yeomll

Please review these articles. Thank you.

––Yeomll (talk) 13:17, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Yeomll Good job!

:Regarding your link 1 (translation to zh), please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it.

:Regarding your link 4 (User:Yeomll - Wikipedia) shouldn't this be at zh wiki? It's in Chinese.

:Regarding your two English projects, not that at Lei Feng some content was removed as it was unreferenced. Remember that all paragraphs need to be referenced, otherwise they will not count for our project and may be deleted from Wikipedia (per our syllabus and Wikipedia:Verifiability)..

:Avoid mid-sentence Chinese conjunctions like "和" being translated as "and" without proper integration. Example: “...by the Chinese Communist Party和Government of China” should become “...by both the Chinese Communist Party and the government of China.”

:Consider using tools like Grammarly or ChatGPT to correct prose and vocabulary to be more fluent and natural English, while reflecting Wikipedia's encyclopedic style and Manual of Style.

:Regarding the TV article: Per WP:LEAD, the lead should summarize the entire article in 2–4 paragraphs. Currently, the lead is one paragraph, and fails to clarify what CCTV-6 is as a channel (not just its legal host institution), mention its dual nature (as both a government channel and entertainment broadcaster) or describe scope: reach, major programs, affiliations (e.g., CHC channels). Please check and let me know if there is anything that needs to be modified. Yhnahc (talk) 13:18, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Yhnahc Your first translation is very rough, with no code translated (where are the hyperlinks, references, etc.?). Your second translation has more code, but there are plenty of errors (such as - why are there two reference sections in the article?). Clean this up and ask me for feedback when you have translated all the content, and fixed obvious omissions and errors like the ones above.

:Regarding blue links (hyperlinks): make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. Hello, professor. I have completed translating and editing the following two English Wikipedia articles into Korean:

1. **"Anti-Japanese sentiment in the United States"** → [미국 내 반일 감정](https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/미국_내_반일_감정)

2. **"The Coming War with Japan"** → [다가오는 일본과의 전쟁](https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/다가오는_일본과의_전쟁)

Dear professor, our group has completed project 2, and my personal Wikipedia translation has also been completed. Please check it.User:Mcx8202229/sandbox Mcx8202229 🇨🇳❤️ (talk) 06:52, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Mcx8202229 Good progress. Here are things to fix:

:* review WP:LEAD and consider how you need to change your lead section to meet Wikipedia guidelines (you can ask AI for advice as well, regarding this issue and others)

:* when citing books, please provide page range used and relevant quotations from the cited pages

:* Some expressions are too casual, folkloric, or culturally internal. For example: "A happy life is hard-won. Go forward and you will have a bright future." Is this a proverb? It does not make much sense in the article. Perhaps you meant something like "The sweet taste is traditionally interpreted as symbolizing the rewards of hard work.”?

:* “It must be savored well” → avoid metaphorical advice; stick to description and cultural interpretations.

:* The legend about the apprentice and master must be introduced clearly as folklore or oral tradition, e.g.: “According to Bai oral tradition…” And it must be attributed to a reliable or published source—not just "there is a legend…".

:* Phrases like “Bai ethnic group’s three-course tea, also known as three-course tea” are redundant.

:* Please read WP:NOTGUIDE. The article comes close to being a “how-to” guide (e.g., “add cinnamon, pour hot tea…”). Summarize these processes concisely without making it instructional.

:* Mention whether similar multi-course tea traditions exist in other regions of China or in other ethnic groups, if sources allow.

:*Many statements are presented as general facts without attribution: “It is said that...” → Who says this? “It is generally believed...” → According to whom?

:*“There is an old saying that goes ‘A first course of tea is for courtesy, a second for taste, and a third for reflection.’” → This quote is likely folk wisdom and needs proper sourcing or framing as a saying.

Dear professor

I am Zhang Zehua, a student in the morning class of Sociology of Everyday Life.

I added the main means by which the Soviet Union manipulated information during the war and its impact on the Soviet Union. Because the English article recently deleted the war process, I also deleted it. Please check it, thank you! ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 02:43, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

:: Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. Project 2 – Topic Confirmation (Individual Work)

Dear Professor,

I’m writing to confirm my Project 2 topic.  Although this assignment was originally described as group work, I’ve been working on it individually.  I hope this is acceptable.

In class, I briefly mentioned that I was planning to observe behavior in the campus café, and I’d now like to formally confirm that as my topic.  Specifically, I’m focusing on how students choose their seats at different times of day.  I’ve been observing patterns related to location (e.g., window seats, near the entrance), whether people sit alone or in groups, and how long they stay.

I’ve been conducting regular observations over the past two weeks, and I’ll soon begin organizing the data and preparing the analysis and presentation.

Please let me know if this direction is acceptable, or if you suggest any changes.

Thank you very much for your time and understanding. Syouziiye (talk) 07:22, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

::Sorry, I have moved the article to the English Wikipedia.User:WANG HONGDA/User:WANG HONGDA/三姐弟布丁事件 WANG HONGDA (talk) 06:29, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

:::@WANG HONGDA Much better. Next:

:::* Several of your links point to a disambiguation pages. To easily see which, go to your preferences and enable the "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange" gadget.

:::* proofread your work to remove stray code like "and 13, 2016.[1] The incident"

:::* Format your article according to WP:MOS, for example, the title of the article should not be in italics but in bold

:::* ensure that every paragraph has a reference

:::* the section on 'Public Commentary' seems like a collection of trivia (random quotations). Reliable ones can be used as sources in other places; but the section is not encyclopedic and needs to be deleted

:::* Some of your references are unreliable and need to be replaced by better ones 2, 5-9, 26 - the first is a wiki, the others are youtube. YouTube can be used only if the reference is to a reliable news source or such, but right now your citations don't provide info on author, date, etc. 26 - Facebook - is also not reliable, as social media.

:::* Your existing references should be properly formatted with metadata - most are missing author, date, and English (translated) title, for example, and have a wrong publisher listed (such as web.archive.org, which is not the publisher, but an archival service). In particular, correct all formatting errors to " web.archive.org." which is not the correct publisher

:::Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 06:48, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Review the wording for compliance with Wikipedia:Neutral point of view

:::The article heavily relies on tabloid-like news (Apple Daily, SETN), YouTube videos, and PTT posts, which are generally considered unreliable or self-published. Supplement coverage with more reputable outlets. Strengthen evidence of notability in the lead and early sections. Show that mainstream media and public institutions addressed the case significantly.

:::The lead lacks summary of key facts: Who, what, when, why it matters. It should be 2–4 paragraphs and summarize the full article. Review WP:LEAD and write a better lead section

:::Use standard Wikipedia section headings (e.g., “Background,” “Controversy,” “Aftermath,” “Legacy”).

:::Do not analyze or interpret events beyond what sources state. For example, avoid phrases like “this intensified public backlash” unless a source explicitly says so.

:::Use consistent date formats (e.g., “January 8, 2016”).

:::Avoid excessive use of blockquotes; paraphrase where possible. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 07:09, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Could you give me some suggestions? It has already been submitted for review by the volunteers. Please check it. Thank you! Zzzzzhouziyu (talk) 08:07, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Zzzzzhouziyu Your feedback is good.

:As for the article in your sandbox, it seems that the Chinese reviewers have some concerns about two issues. First, is the quality of the translation - I cannot help with this, as I don't speak Chinese, but you can ask for help, either from AI, or from the reviewers themselves (ask them to show you specific examples of bad translation to help you understand).

:The latest comment translates as Wikify, which usually means you need to use more blue links and/or other wiki code. On Chinese, use :zh:Template:Interlanguage link multi . I see some definitely not linked content in see also section - link those articles or remove the text. Second example in 'In popular culture' needs a reference - add one, or remove it.The last few sentences in the Causes section needs a reference, again - add one or remove the unreferenced sentences. And remember, again, if you don't understand why the reviewers are unhappy with your work, you should talk to them directly and ask them what needs to be fixed. Hello Professor, I am FAN XINRU, a student of Everyday Life and Social Structure. BAI LINHAN and I formed a group to undertake the task of Project 2. Sorry to bother you, but my topic is "How often do students use electronic devices (laptops/tablets/phones) during self-study in the library? Will it affect their focus time?" We believe that multitasking on electronic devices can reduce learning efficiency, so we conducted a related investigation on this topic. May I ask if this topic is acceptable? We are currently observing according to this topic and will carefully complete it. We hope to receive confirmation from the professor. Jzhdylb (talk) 12:20, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Xuan6699 Very good, you are almost done.

:At least one of your links point to a disambiguation page. To easily see which, go to your preferences and enable the "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange" gadget, then fix it.

:When your translation is finished, if you are creating a new article, you can publish it (move it the mainspace). See Wikipedia:Moving a page for how to do this. If you are expanding an existing article, see WP:MERGE instead.

:You should also link the article to the original version you are translating it from by clicking the "Add interlanguage links" button - see here for how to to it: Help:Interlanguage links - Wikipedia

:When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page.

:When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page (if the translation is to English).

:Please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 09:16, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Dear Professor,

I am taking Everyday Life and Social Structureand and Collective Intelligence in Practice at the same time . I'm currently encountering a problem. This is the [https://zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%AC%AC%E4%BA%8C%E6%AC%A1%E5%9B%BD%E5%85%B1%E5%86%85%E6%88%98 second article] in my group's translation task, but this translating from Chinese to English is quite challenging for me. Can I switch to a different article? Perhaps you could recommend a Chinese to English article for me. Thank you very much!Professor. Lzk15038863666 (talk) 06:51, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

:@Lzk15038863666 You can chose a different topic. Please review the lists here 维基百科:优良条目 - 维基百科,自由的百科全书

:and check which articles don't have English equivalents, and choose something from them to translate.

She also left a message here on behalf of both of us about the topics we chose. Why are our scores different? I got 8 points and she got 10 points. I look forward to your reply, thank you Bai0926 (talk) 12:21, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
