(Benzene)ruthenium dichloride dimer is the organoruthenium compound with the formula [(C{{sub|6}}H{{sub|6}})RuCl{{sub|2}}]{{sub|2}}. This red-coloured, diamagnetic solid is a reagent in organometallic chemistry and homogeneous catalysis.
Preparation, structure, and reactions
The dimer is prepared by the reaction of cyclohexadienes with hydrated ruthenium trichloride.{{cite book|last1=Bennett|first1=M. A.|last2=Huang|first2=T. N.|last3=Matheson|first3=T. (Benzene)ruthenium dichloride dimer reacts with Lewis bases to give monometallic adducts:
:[(C{{sub|6}}H{{sub|6}})RuCl{{sub|2}}]{{sub|2}} + 2 triphenylphosphine → 2 (C{{sub|6}}H{{sub|6}})RuCl{{sub|2}}(PPh{{sub|3}})
