The {{nihongo|419 series|419系|419-kei}} was an electric multiple unit (EMU) train type introduced in 1985 by Japanese National Railways (JNR), and later operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR-West) on local services along the Japan Sea coast of Japan until March 2011. They were converted from former 583 series sleeping car EMUs in the 1980s.{{cite book| script-title=ja: JR全車輌ハンドブック2009| trans-title = JR Rolling Stock Handbook 2009| publisher = Neko Publishing| year = 2009| location = Japan| page = 303| isbn = 978-4-7770-0836-0| title = Jēāru zensharyō handobukku: Rail Magazine 2009}}

The 419 series sets were converted from surplus former 583 series sleeping car EMUs and entered service from the start of the revised timetable in March 1985.

Following the introduction of new 521 series EMUs in late 2006, two sets, D10 and D13, were withdrawn in March 2007.{{cite journal| script-title=ja: 北陸地方の車両に注目!| trans-title = Focusing on Trains in the Hokuriku Region| journal = Tetsudō Daiya Jōhō Magazine| volume = 39| issue = 311|pages=11–41| date = March 2010}} The remaining sets were finally withdrawn on 11 March 2011.{{cite web|url= http://www.hokkoku.co.jp/subpage/H20110311104.htm|script-title= ja:さよなら「食パン列車」「雷鳥」 11日ラストラン|trans-title= Goodbye to the "Sliced Bread" and "Raicho" Trains|date= 11 March 2011|work= Ishikawa News|publisher= The Hokkoku Shimbun|location= Japan|language= ja|archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20110316182439/http://www.hokkoku.co.jp/subpage/H20110311104.htm|archive-date= 2011-03-16|access-date= 11 October 2011|url-status=dead}}
