{{Maintenance category|tracking=true|empty=true|polluted=true|purpose=This category tracks pages that have {{tlx|Transliteration}} errors.}}

Error messages

The error messages have the form:

:[<{{var|text}}>] (help link)

where <{{var|text}}> is the text supplied to the template and rendered without proper html markup. Error messages are defined here:

class="wikitable plainrowheaders"

|+ Error message definitions

scope="col" | Error message

! scope="col" | Description

scope="row" | missing language / script code

| {{{1}}} (required) is empty or is not two, three, or four characters in length

scope="row" | unrecognized language / script code: <{{var|code}}>

| {{{1}}} is not a valid two- or three-character IANA/ISO 639-3 language code or is not a four-character ISO 15924 script code.

scope="row" | no text

| {{{2}}} (or {{{3}}} if transliteration standard supplied in {{{2}}}) is empty; this parameter is required. This message will also appear if an equal sign "=" is used.

scope="row" | unrecognized transliteration standard: <{{var|transliteration standard}}>

| {{{2}}} is empty when {{{3}}} holds the transliteration text; or {{{2}}} is not a transliteration standard code known to the template; this parameter is optional but if not required must be omitted. Known standard codes are:

: AHL, ALA, ALA-LC, BATR, BGN/PCGN, DIN, EAE, Hepburn, IAST, ISO, Nihon-shiki, pinyin, RR, SATTS, UNGEGN, Wehr;

scope="row" | transliteration text not Latin script (pos {{var|n}})

| {{tld|transliteration}} expects <{{var|text}}> to be written using Latn-script characters. The template emits this error message when non-Latn-script characters are found in <{{var|text}}> that are not recognized as valid transliterations in any relevant scheme. For example, <{{var|text}}> has Cyrillic shwa (ә; U+04D9) instead of the Latin shwa (ə; U+0259). (pos {{var|n}}) identifies the location (left-to-right) of the first unrecognized non-Latn character in <{{var|text}}>. If the character is a valid transliteration, it will need to be added to the exception list in Module:Lang.
