It is the first bypass around the city, the second being Interstate 55 (I-55). It serves an alternative route to Interstate 55 Business (I-55 BL). It is a four-lane divided highway for its entire length.

Route description

The Lincoln Parkway begins at an intersection with the County Rd 900 E north of Broadwell. {{convert|2,160|ft|m}} down the road, it has an interchange with I-55, where it begins its concurrency with I-55 BL. East of I-55, it begins its concurrency with historic US 66. the parkway then curves to the north and then enters the city limits of Lincoln. At CR 13, I-55 BL turns right onto 5th Street towards downtown Lincoln, ending its concurrency with Lincoln Parkway. A few blocks down the road, it then has an intersection with Woodlawn Road (IL 10/IL 121). One block later, it has an intersection (this time being incomplete) with Old Route 121 (former IL 121) and curves to the east. It then has an access point with N Kickapoo Street (I-55 BL/historic US 66). After leaving the city limits of Lincoln, I-55 BL rejoins the Lincoln Parkway. Both I-55 BL and the Lincoln Parkway meet the termini at I-55 where the road continues as historic US 66.
