|Article=Willow Rosenberg
|Purpose=The kiss between Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay occurred during the fifth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a year after the characters met and became romantically involved. Joss Whedon, the show's creator, never intended for Buffy to have a "very special episode" in which a lesbian kiss was the center of focus. Instead, the kiss was included during the episode "The Body (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)" that focuses on the death of Buffy's mother and is predominantly about the grief of the main characters. It was not intended to be a single instance of lesbian affection as had developed into the lesbian kiss episode genre. Furthermore, the writers and characters on the show were restricted in what kinds of affection could be displayed while Buffy aired on the WB network. The image is representative of these issues, notable in its significance, and words are insufficient in relaying these concepts.
