Hendre has been an electoral ward to Gwynedd Council since 1995, electing one county councillor. The 1995, 1999 and 2004 elections were won by the Labour Party. Plaid Cymru's John Wynn Jones won in 2008 and 2012.{{cite web|title=Gwynedd Council Election Results 1995-2012 |url=http://www.electionscentre.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/Gwynedd-1995-2012.pdf |publisher=The Elections Centre (Plymouth University)|accessdate=21 April 2019}}

In the May 2017 county council election the result was a dead heat between the Plaid Cymru candidate, John Wynn Jones and Independent candidate, Richard Hughes.{{cite news|author=Shane Brennan|url=http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/local-election-results-parties-fail-12994625 |title=Local election results: Parties fail to win overall control in almost every North Wales county |work=Daily Post |date=5 May 2017 |accessdate=26 November 2017 }} Each candidate had received 132 votes. A 2018 report by the Boundary Commission for Wales suggested a merger of Hendre with neighbouring areas to form a new two-member ward. Low voter registration of the university students was blamed for the small electorates in the city.{{cite news|url=https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/gwynedd-set-lose-councillors-ward-15387552 |title=Gwynedd set to lose councillors in ward boundary shake-up |work=North Wales Live |date=10 November 2018 |accessdate=21 April 2019 }} Eventually the neighbouring Deiniol ward was split and part merged with Hendre, with Hendre's representation on the city council increased to three councillors from the 2022 elections.{{cite web|url=https://www.legislation.gov.uk/wsi/2021/1223/article/5 |title=The County of Gwynedd (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2021 - Article 5|website=legislation.gov.uk |publisher=The National Archives |date=1 November 2021 |accessdate=10 December 2024 }}
