The son of the 8th Baronet, he was educated at Trinity College, Dublin."Alumni Dublinenses: a register of the students, graduates, professors and provosts of Trinity College in the University of Dublin (1593–1860). George Dames Burtchaell / Thomas Ulick Sadleir p. 76: Dublin, Alex Thom and Co, 1935 After a curacy in Cardiff he was the Rector of Michaelston Le Pit, near Cardiff in 1838 then incumbent at Newcastle, Bridgend from 1839 to 1877.
