Etymology
The Avestan equivalent of Hushang is {{lang|ae-Latn|Haošyaŋha}}. Older sources interpreted the second part of the name as {{lang|ae-Latn|-šyaŋh}}, composed of {{lang|ae-Latn|ši-}} 'dwelling' and {{lang|ae-Latn|-aŋh}} 'giving rise to', thus meaning 'he who produces good dwellings' or 'promoter of culture and sedentary living'. According to another interpretation, the second part of the name is {{lang|ae-Latn|-šiiah-}} a variant of {{lang|ae-Latn|čiia-}} 'selecting, deciding', giving the whole name *{{Lang|ae-Latn|hu-šiiah-}} the meaning 'good (religious) choice'.{{Encyclopædia Iranica Online|year=2004|first=A.
