Hymenobacter elongatus is a species of bacteria first isolated from Victoria Upper Glacier, Antarctica on basal ice. It is a psychrotolerant, heterotrophic aerobe. It is notable for the prevalence of horizontal gene transfers in its evolution, possibly due to dormancy because of its habitat.{{cite journal|last1=Klassen|first1=Jonathan L.|last2=Foght|first2=Julia M.|title=Characterization of Hymenobacter isolates from Victoria Upper Glacier, Antarctica reveals five new species and substantial non-vertical evolution within this genus|journal=Extremophiles|volume=15|issue=1|year=2010|pages=45–57|issn=1431-0651|doi=10.1007/s00792-010-0336-1|pmid=21104190|s2cid=23390236}}
