Jivani previously described that he held liberal views for a few years after law school but grew out of those views as he grew older and considers conservatism as a form of counterculture. Even though he praised previous leader Erin O'Toole's character, he was critical of O'Toole not trying to appeal to the Conservative grassroots.{{Cite web |last=Jivani |first=Jamil |title=Jamil Jivani: Erin O'Toole privileged liberal elites over his own conservative base |url=https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jamil-jivani-erin-otoole-privileged-liberal-elites-over-his-own-conservative-base |access-date=March 3, 2024 |website=National Post |archive-date=March 9, 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240309051654/https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jamil-jivani-erin-otoole-privileged-liberal-elites-over-his-own-conservative-base |url-status=live }}
Jivani classified Quebec's Bill 96, which would provide most government and business services to be offered exclusively in French, as an example of national conservatism being implemented in Canada.{{Cite web |last=Jivani |first=Jamil |date=June 2, 2022 |title=Jamil Jivani: Quebec's Bill 96 hardly at odds with conservative movement |url=https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jamil-jivani-quebecs-bill-96-hardly-at-odds-with-conservative-movement |access-date=August 21, 2023 |archive-date=March 9, 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240309051706/https://nationalpost.com/opinion/jamil-jivani-quebecs-bill-96-hardly-at-odds-with-conservative-movement |url-status=live }}
