History

A halt named Pwllheli Road existed here on the horse-drawn Nantlle Railway from 1856 to 12 June 1865.{{sfn|Butt|1995|p=192}}From the outset timetables appeared regularly in the "Carnarvon & Denbigh Herald"[https://newspapers.library.wales/view/4465067/4465071/30/nantlle%20railway Specimen timetable, North Wales Chronicle and Advertiser 14 May 1859] and in Bradshaw from October 1856.[https://books.google.com/books?id=mzsGAAAAQAAJ&dq=Bradshaw%27s+monthly+railway+and+steam+navigation+guide+nantlle&pg=RA1-PA111 Example timetable in Bradshaw] It was obliterated when the standard gauge railway and station were built.{{sfn|Boyd|1990|p=102}}

The station opened on 2 September 1867, also as "Pwllheli Road".{{sfn|Turner|2003|p=7}} It was renamed "Llanwnda" in 1877 and closed with the line in December 1964.{{cite web |url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/63164772@N05/7180946757/ |title=Llanwnda station after closure |website=flickr }}{{sfn|Rear|2012|pp=53-55}}

When the Penygroes By-pass was built in 1999–2000 the site of the station was obliterated by a roundabout where the A487 and A499 meet.
