Club career
Schaeffer started football at FC Eschau{{cite web |title=Décès de Lucien Schaeffer |url=https://racingstub.com/articles/17526-deces-de-lucien-schaeffer |website=Racing Stub |access-date=12 August 2023}} and FAIG.{{cite web |title=Décès de Lucien Schaeffer |url=https://racingstub.com/articles/17526-deces-de-lucien-schaeffer |website=Racing Stub |access-date=12 August 2023}} In 1945, he was recruited by Strasbourg, starting as an amateur player until 1948{{cite web |title=Décès de Lucien Schaeffer |url=https://racingstub.com/articles/17526-deces-de-lucien-schaeffer |website=Racing Stub |access-date=12 August 2023}}
With Strasbourg he won the 1951 Coupe de France, the club's first ever honour{{cite web |title=Décès de Lucien Schaeffer |url=https://racingstub.com/articles/17526-deces-de-lucien-schaeffer |website=Racing Stub |access-date=12 August 2023}} while he was the starting goalkeeper. Managerial career

Death
