It was originally found on the fronds of Rhopalostylis sapida (nīkau palm tree) in northern New Zealand,{{cite web |title=Species Fungorum - Names Record |url=https://www.speciesfungorum.org/Names/NamesRecord.asp?RecordID=500526 |website=www.speciesfungorum.org |access-date=18 September 2023}} and it was published in 2006, along with other Pseudocercospora species; Pseudocercospora gunnerae and Pseudocercospora pandoreae.
