Career

Sara Arjun was one and a half years old when she shot for her first commercial after she was spotted at a mall with her parents and subsequently, Arjun appeared in a hundred ad films for brands including McDonald's.{{cite news |url=http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-features/tp-metroplus/que-sara-sara/article2066769.ece |title=Que Sara Sara |date=1 June 2011 |newspaper=The Hindu |access-date=27 August 2016 |archive-date=11 October 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20181011013045/https://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-features/tp-metroplus/que-sara-sara/article2066769.ece |url-status=live }} Arjun did a commercial for director Vijay when she was two but he then lost touch with Arjun's family, before he met them and cast Arjun in his drama film, Deiva Thirumagal, following a visit to Mumbai. Her parents helped Arjun learn the Tamil dialogues for the film by asking their Tamil friend, Maheswari, to assist them. The film's crew later remarked that Arjun had also learned Vikram's dialogues in the film and tried to help him during the shoot. Upon release, the film became a critical and commercial success with Arjun's performance of Nila becoming unanimously praised by film critics. Similarly another critic cites that "Sara as Nila almost steals the show as Vikram's daughter", whilst the reviewers from CNN-IBN mentioned that Arjun is "charm personified and she handles her role in an amazing manner".{{cite web |url=http://www.sify.com/mobile/news/Deivathirumagal-a-winner-for-its-emotional-appeal-Tamil-Movie-Review-Rating-1-2-news-National-lhqr4fjehba.html |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160828043740/http://www.sify.com/mobile/news/Deivathirumagal-a-winner-for-its-emotional-appeal-Tamil-Movie-Review-Rating-1-2-news-National-lhqr4fjehba.html |url-status=dead |archive-date=28 August 2016 |title='Deivathirumagal' – a winner for its emotional appeal (Tamil Movie Review; Rating:***1/2)}}{{cite news |url=http://www.thehindu.com/features/cinema/deiva-thirumagal-a-sensitive-poem-on-celluloid/article2233163.ece |title=Deiva Thirumagal: a sensitive poem on celluloid |date=16 July 2011 |newspaper=The Hindu |last1=Rangarajan |first1=Malathi |access-date=27 August 2016 |archive-date=15 December 2014 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20141215043204/http://www.thehindu.com/features/cinema/deiva-thirumagal-a-sensitive-poem-on-celluloid/article2233163.ece |url-status=live }} Her father claimed that Arjun was unfazed by the publicity and once in her hotel room, she returned to her daily routine of "asking for her eraser, sharpener and colour pencils".{{Cite news |url=http://www.thehindu.com/life-and-style/article2292941.ece |title=All in the family |newspaper=The Hindu |date=25 July 2011 |last1=Chowdhary |first1=Y. Arjun then worked on Kannan Iyer's supernatural Hindi film Ek Thi Daayan (2013) produced by Ekta Kapoor and portrayed the role of Misha, the little sister of the film's lead character. The film opened to positive reviews but did not perform well commercially, with Arjun's performance being described as "irresistibly cute" by the reviewer from Rediff.{{cite web |url=http://www.rediff.com/movies/review/review-ek-thi-daayan-is-impressively-scary/20130419.htm |title=Review: Ek Thi Daayan is impressively creepy |access-date=7 April 2014 |archive-date=29 April 2013 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130429004320/http://www.rediff.com/movies/review/review-ek-thi-daayan-is-impressively-scary/20130419.htm |url-status=live }} She then featured in a lead role in R. Sundarrajan's Chithirayil Nilachoru, though the film opened with little publicity.{{cite news |url=http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tamil/movie-reviews/Chithirayil-Nilachoru/movie-review/24467135.cms |title=Chithirayil Nilachoru Movie Review, Trailer, & Show timings at Times of India |website=The Times of India |access-date=27 August 2016 |archive-date=6 April 2019 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190406082514/https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/tamil/movie-reviews/Chithirayil-Nilachoru/movie-review/24467135.cms |url-status=live }} Arjun then worked on Vijay's Saivam, a family drama, in which she played a lead character of a young girl named Thamizhselvi. Featuring in an ensemble cast, she won rave reviews for her performance with a critic noting "the film wouldn't be half the film without the abundant charm and screen presence of Sara who plays Tamizh".{{cite web |date=7 April 2014 |title=Director Vijay terms Sara Arjun as the real star of 'Saivam' |url=http://www.indiatvnews.com/entertainment/bollywood/director-vijay-terms-sara-arjun-as-the-real-star-of-saivam-13240.html |url-status=live |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140408220506/http://www.indiatvnews.com/entertainment/bollywood/director-vijay-terms-sara-arjun-as-the-real-star-of-saivam-13240.html |archive-date=8 April 2014 |access-date=7 April 2014 |website=indiatvnews.com}}{{cite web |title=Saivam |url=http://www.sify.com/movies/saivam-review-tamil-pcmbsKchfbdcb.html |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150308182230/http://www.sify.com/movies/saivam-review-tamil-pcmbsKchfbdcb.html |archive-date=8 March 2015 |website=Sify}}
