Scholarine is an alkaloid isolated initially from Alstonia scholaris by Banerji and Siddhanta. Subsequently, it was obtained from the West African tree Alstonia boonei.{{cite book|author=John Edwin Saxton|title=Monoterpenoid indole alkaloids: Supplement to Part 4|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=5eFPAAAAYAAJ|access-date=25 August 2013|volume=4|date=15 December 1994|publisher=Wiley|isbn=978-0-471-95112-4|page=287}} The derivative N-Formylscholarine has been isolated from the fruit pods of Alstonia scholaris.{{cite journal |pmid=19851925 |year=2009 |last1=Jain |first1=L |last2=Pandey |first2=MB |last3=Singh |first3=S |last4=Singh |first4=AK |last5=Pandey |first5=VB |title=A new indole alkaloid from Alstonia scholaris |volume=23 |issue=17 |pages=1599–602 |doi=10.1080/14786410802547499 |journal=Natural Product Research|s2cid=26325499 }}
