Sulfoquinovose, also known as 6-sulfoquinovose and 6-deoxy-6-sulfo-D-glucopyranose, is a monosaccharide sugar that is found as a building block in the sulfolipid sulfoquinovosyl diacylglycerol (SQDG).{{cite journal|last1=Goddard-Borger|first1=ED|last2=Williams|first2=SJ|title=Sulfoquinovose in the biosphere: occurrence, metabolism and functions.|journal=The Biochemical Journal|date=20 February 2017|volume=474|issue=5|pages=827–849|doi=10.1042/BCJ20160508|pmid=28219973}} Sulfoquinovose is a sulfonic acid derivative of glucose, the sulfonic acid group is introduced into the sugar by the enzyme UDP-sulfoquinovose synthase (SQD1). Sulfoquinovose is degraded through a metabolic process termed sulfoglycolysis.
