{{{result|The result of the debate was}}} Move. Duja► 08:12, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
- Eddie Griffin (basketball) implies that Eddie Griffin is a basketball. Therefore I suggest the article should remain at the current title. -- Chuq 12:26, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Support move. Naming convention does not include "player" (see John Madden). Patstuarttalk|edits 12:40, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- It seems those articles are named wrong as well then - see WP:NAMEPEOPLE#Qualifier_between_brackets_or_parentheses -- Chuq 12:57, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- It states, exactly, try to limit to a single, recognisable and highly applicable word regarding the person at hand. -Patstuarttalk|edits 13:02, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- All the examples there of disambiguation by profession are a word describing the person, not what vocation they are in (eg. we use "politician", "actor", but not "politics", "acting"). The only sporting example is "cyclist" (as oppose to "cycling"). Maybe "basketballer"? -- Chuq 13:13, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but will anybody really look at that article title and think it's referring to a basketball? It didn't even occur to me that it might mean otherwise until you pointed it out. Besides, here basketball is the sport (not the ball), so it does apply (as in, John Madden (hockey), not John Madden (puck)). Anyway, it's not the end of the world either way, I just thought it was better at basketball.- Patstuarttalk|edits 01:55, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Although, personally, I feel that a move should be carried out, due to the lack of consensus I'm going to relist this on WP:RM. Thanks, Martinp23 17:50, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Support Basketball is the name of the sport and the ball. See John Madden (football), yet John Madden is not a football. There is no television called stripping, yet we have Stripping (television). – Anþony talk 21:20, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
