:Talk:Iron(II) fluoride

The main text says that FeF₂ is a "green crystalline solid," with a colorless tetrahydrate, whereas the infobox says it's a "red-violet transparent crystal." I think one would have to be color-blind to reconcile the two descriptions. I know of inorganic compounds that change color when hydrated or not, or due to fluorescence, but this doesn't seem to explain the discrepancy in this particular case. Which description is right? A brief Google search didn't shed any light upon this subject. It did show, though, that ferrous salts are usually green, as are nickel ones, and nickel (II) fluoride is green. So, I'm more tempted to believe the main text description, but can anyone confirm the color of ferrous fluoride? --UrsoBR (talk) 02:33, 12 November 2013 (UTC)

:The "green" may have been a blid guess from the pale green color of the solution, and "red-violet" may have been vandalism. All references I have seen say that both the solid anhydrous and tetrahydrate are white (colorless). Fixed. --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 13:06, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

::That was my conclusion. High spin ferrous would be expected to be that way. The other thing that I learned is that a lot of work has been reported on the anhydrous (>1000 hits in SciFinder), but almost nothing on the hydrate. The usual problem with hydrated fluorides is that they are contaminated with isostructural hydroxides.
