Published by Pennsylvania Department of Highways but not primary?
{{Ping|Dough4872}} how can a map published by the Pennsylvania Department of Highways not be a wp:primary source when it comes to a highway in Pennsylvania? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:14, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
:The raw GIS data used to make the map is the primary source. The map is a secondary source. Dough4872 21:17, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
:: This isn't specifically about maps this is about the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, how can something they publish about a highway in Pennsylvania not be primary? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:19, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
:::Pennsylvania Department of Highways is a first-hand source, their maps are secondary sources. As I mentioned, the raw data to make the map is the primary source. Dough4872 21:46, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
::::How can their maps about themselves be anything other than a primary source? If Walmart publishes a map of Walmart stores thats a primary source for info about Walmart stores, if the Pennsylvania Department of Highways publishes a map of highways in Pennsylvania thats a primary source for info about highways in Pennsylvania (such as Pennsylvania Route 171). Horse Eye's Back (talk) 21:52, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
:::::I get the feeling that you wouldn't like any map used in this way, not even the ones by Rand McNally. --Rschen7754 22:21, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
:::::: I'm ok with using maps as primary sources as long as its due in context. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 23:22, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
{{Ping|Dough4872}} are you still confused about what constitutes a primary source? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 15:04, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
Notability
{{Ping|Dough4872}} can you provide the reliable independent sources you believe exist which support your claim of notability? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 18:32, 10 October 2022 (UTC)
