XAS and XAFS

It seems to be that this article is not really describing XAS, but mainly XAFS instead.

XAS can in deed include XAFS but it should be better distinguished. XAS is more like a superior group label for absorption spectroscopy. Maybe a useful way to separate is, that XAS is particularly looking for the "disappearance" of photons due to absorption. Also is it not needed to have monochromatic light for XAS, while for XAFS it is needed (with some exceptions like the method used at ID24 in Genoble.)

XAFS to the contrary is only specifically concerned with the fine structure (or so called "oscillations" in the proximity of an absorption edge. It can be separated in to XANES (=NEXAFS) and EXAFS.

Again, XAFS can be considered as part of XAS, but the Article does not describe XAS, but rather the special case of XAFS.

Figure 2

it should be "absorption" not "absorbtion" within the figure 2. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.149.53.143 (talk) 08:53, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
