Waruni Lanka Ranathunga is a Sri Lankan beauty queen, professional dancer, and model. She rose to prominence after winning the title of Miss Global International 2024 in Kathmandu, Nepal. She is also a national director and jury member for several international beauty pageants.
Early life and education
Waruni Ranathunga was born in Katunayake, near Colombo, Sri Lanka. She completed her high school education in Colombo and actively participated in sports and performing arts. During her school years, she captained the All-Island netball champion team and was a school army cadet captain in 2008. She won the All-Island Down South Dancing Competition in 2010.
Performing arts and media
Ranathunga has participated in several national dance contests and TV shows, including Sirasa TV’s Nethra Dancing Competition, Derana City of Dance 2015, and was featured as a dancer in the film Super Six. She is also a professional choreographer and runway walk trainer.
Pageantry and modelling career
Waruni began her modelling career professionally in 2019. In 2022, she worked in airport staff services while continuing to pursue competitive Latin dancing, eventually winning a national championship that same year.
In 2023, she won a national modelling title, and in 2024, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka.
