History

RPG Gateway was founded in 1996 by James Mathe of the RPG Host network, and subsequently taken over by Effie Rover of the RPG Nexxus site network in 1999. Since then, it has grown to around 5,000 sites. It has never changed its basic format - that of a categorized directory of site listings.

In the early 2000's, the site added Official designations to differentiate fan sites from designated official sites, and a Top 100 list tied to incoming votes, outgoing links and user ratings. A web forum followed, offering advice for RPG webmasters on site improvements.

Editors

RPG Gateway relies on a staff of volunteer editors who may change from time to time. However, a core group of editors (called Senior Editors on the site) have remained since the 1990's.
