Wicked Summer was a planned TV series similar to the reality series Jersey Shore. According to its producers, it was to be filmed around Boston and Cape Cod in Massachusetts. After an open casting advertisement in 2010, there has been no subsequent activity associated with the series. This show is not to be confused with the planned reality show that was planned to showcase people in South Boston.{{cite web|title=Producers behind 'Jersey Shore' confirm Southie reality show|url=http://www.boston.com/Boston/names/2012/02/producers-behind-jersey-shore-confirm-southie-reality-show/f3rJwIJFUTPnuQmn2M2UxL/index.html?p1=Well_MostPop_Emailed1_HP|publisher=The Boston Globe|access-date=7 February 2012|date=7 February 2012}}
History
Following the widely popular first season of Jersey Shore, spinoffs were planned by independent companies. One of these spinoffs was to have a show with the Jersey Shore theme filmed in the Boston area. The open casting is looking for, "...blue collar, hard working, harder partying, tough talking, damn good-looking Mass natives from all over the state..." The casting site also is written in a stereotypical view of how Bostonians supposedly speak, leaving out the letter R in many instances. The producers of the show also don't plan on having the original Jersey Shore group shown unless they come to visit.{{cite web|url=http://www.tvguide.com/News/Jersey-Shore-Boston-1017247.aspx?rss=news&partnerid=spi&profileid=05#comments|title=Jersey Shore Spin-Off Heads to New England for Wicked Summer|last=Stanhope|first=Kate|date=April 13, 2010|publisher=TV Guide|access-date=15 April 2010}}{{cite web|url=http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/04/13/2010-04-13_jersey_shore_spinoff_wicked_summer_to_start_filming_in_boston_massachusetts_in_j.html|title='Jersey Shore' spin-off, 'Wicked Summer,' to start filming in Boston, Massachusetts, in July|last=Roberts|first=Soraya|date=April 13, 2010|work=New York Daily News|access-date=15 April 2010}}
In addition to the Massachusetts spinoff, Doron Ofir Casting, has also stated that they want to create a Persian themed show in the Los Angeles area.
Reaction
Vanity Fair Daily has gone as far as calling the show and its twin Persian version fake as they won't either be supported by MTV and are just capitalizing on the success of the popular show.{{cite web|url=http://www.vanityfair.com/online/daily/2010/04/the-burgeoning-jersey-shore-spin-offs-are-miraculously-even-faker-than-actual-jersey-shore.html|title=The Burgeoning Jersey Shore Spin-Offs Are Miraculously Even Faker Than Actual Jersey Shore|last=Weiner|first=Juli|date=April 15, 2010|publisher=Vanity Fair|access-date=15 April 2010}} Rumors have been spread over the internet concerning the fact that MTV is supposedly sponsoring the spinoff. This has been denied by both MTV and independent websites. One of the few similarities between the show and Jersey Shore is that they have the same casting director.{{cite web|url=http://www.gossipcop.com/mtv-spin-off-jersey-shore-wicked-summer-boston/|title=MTV not spinning off "Jersey Shore" in Boston|date=April 19, 2010|publisher=Gossipcop.com|access-date=20 April 2010}}
A Facebook group has even been created protesting the show. The main goal of the group is to protesting the creation of a perceived negative image of Cape Cod.{{Cite web|url=http://www.capecodonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100428/NEWS/4280327|title = Entertainment in Hyannis, MA}}
