Poor-quality automated portal on a marginal topic.

This portal was created in June 2018 as an old-style portal with manually-create subpages. Despite a few tweaks, it was still in poor shape in August (see [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Samsung&oldid=854428937 August version]), and in Feb 2019 it was converted[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal%3ASamsung&type=revision&diff=884360201&oldid=854428937] to an automated portal.

The automated version is still poor. It consists solely of a DYK section with three trivial items and a "selected articles" list which is built solely on three navboxes ({{Samsung}}, {{Samsung Electronics}}, and {{Samsung Electronics}}). All three navboxes are transcluded in the head article Samsung, so the portal merely duplicates that page, which is a vastly better navigational hub.

Per WP:PORTAL, "Portals serve as enhanced "Main Pages" for specific broad subjects" ... but this is a significantly degraded main page for the topic. Note that the navboxes selected give a grossly imbalanced picture of the company, focusing on its electronics products even tho Samsung is also a huge player in many other sectors, including heavy industries (world's 2nd largest shipbuilder in 2010), in construction, in life insurance and in advertising.

Samsung is the largest South Korean chaebol (business conglomerate), and it deserves much better than such an imbalanced selective pseudo-portal.

Despite the size of the company, it's still only a Level 4 Vital article, i.e. in the 1,001–10,000 range of priority topics. Given the very poor shape of many higher-priority portals and the neglect of this portal over the last year, there is no reason to expect an influx of editors to curate and maintain it.

Readers already vastly prefer the head article. In January–March 2019, the head article got [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&start=2019-01-01&end=2019-03-31&pages=Samsung 5,080 pageviews per day], but the portal got only [https://tools.wmflabs.org/pageviews/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&start=2019-01-01&end=2019-03-31&pages=Portal:Samsung 9 pageviews per day].

Readers will be much better served by us having no Samsung portal than any version of this page. Just delete it, along with its subpages. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:43, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

  • Delete nice long explanation. Short explanation: No portals on individual companies per precedent. Legacypac (talk) 02:12, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
  • Delete - Created as an inferior heritage portal and then converted into an inferior robotic portal by the portal platoon. As BHG always says, readers prefer the head article; she says that because it is true. Very little need for one-company portals. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:50, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
  • Recuse - disclaimer: I have a Samsung phone. Pldx1 (talk) 08:39, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
