Career

Bergantiños was born in A Coruña. He had his first professional spell as a footballer in 2008, at already 23: loaned by local club Deportivo de La Coruña, he was an essential midfield figure as Xerez CD achieved a first-ever top flight promotion – 31 games, 21 starts and 2,085 minutes played.{{cite web|url=https://www.granadaenjuego.com/bxx-----Cesion/alex-bergantinos--quinta-cesion-|title=Alex Bergantiños, quinta cesión|trans-title=Alex Bergantiños, fifth loan|publisher=Granada en Juego|language=es|date=14 July 2010|access-date=1 October 2021}}

In very late August 2009, after tying him to the club for four more years, Depor agreed to loan Bergantiños once again to the Andalusians, in another season-long move.{{cite news|url=http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2009/08/27/mas_futbol/1251324017_850215.html|title=Deportivo y Xerez cierran por escrito la cesión de Álex Bergantiños|trans-title=Deportivo and Xerez agree to loan of Álex Bergantiños in writing|newspaper=As|language=es|date=27 August 2009|access-date=16 March 2015}} He made his La Liga debut on 30 August, playing the last 30 minutes in a 2–0 away loss against RCD Mallorca,{{cite news|url=http://www.marca.com/marcador/futbol/2009_10/primera/jornada_1/mal_xer/|title=El Mallorca bautiza al Xerez en Primera|trans-title=Mallorca baptise Xerez in Primera|newspaper=Marca|first=Álvaro|last=Olmedo|language=es|date=30 August 2009|access-date=16 March 2015}} and produced roughly the same numbers than in the previous year as the Andalusians were immediately relegated.{{cite news|url=https://www.laopinioncoruna.es/deportivo/2012/05/15/alex-bergantinos-garcia-ascenso-caro-25007655.html|title=Álex Bergantiños García "El ascenso va a estar más caro que nunca y hay que apretar"|trans-title=Álex Bergantiños García "Promotion is going to be more up for grabs than ever so you have to fire on all cylinders"|newspaper=La Opinión A Coruña|first=Zeltia|last=Regueiro|language=es|date=15 May 2012|access-date=1 October 2021}}
