History

It was first mentioned as Susela in 1213, when it was part of Piast-ruled Poland.Rawska K.: Atrakcje powiatu krapkowickiego. Przewodnik. Studio Wydawnicze Plan, Wrocław, {{ISBN|83-60180-31-8}} The name is of Polish origin and comes from the word żużel, which means either "cinder" or "slag".

Under Nazi Germany, in 1934, it was renamed Schlacken to erase traces of Polish origin.

A Polish citizen was murdered by Nazi Germany in the village during World War II.{{cite book|author= |title=Zestawienie Miejsc Zbrodni Popełnionych na Ludności Cywilnej przez Okupanta Hitlerowskiego na Ziemiach Polskich w latach 1939–1945|year=2022|language=pl|location=Warszawa|page=193|isbn=978-83-954388-3-7}}
