Reptiles
- French anatomist Georges Cuvier restudied a bizzare fossil illustrated by Collini. He reinterpreted its forelimbs as wings and deemed it a flying reptile. This fossil would be named Pterodactylus in 1809.{{Cite journal |ref= wellnhofer-2008 |author=Wellnhofer, Peter|year=2008 |title=A short history of pterosaur research. |journal=Zitteliana B |volume=28 |pages=7–19}}
