The 1879 Minnesota lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on 4 November 1879 in order to elect the lieutenant governor of Minnesota. Republican nominee and incumbent member of the Minnesota House of Representatives from the 31st district Charles A. Gilman defeated Democratic nominee Edward P. Barnum, Greenback Labor nominee Isaac M. Westfall and Prohibition nominee A.B. General election
On election day, 4 November 1879, Republican nominee Charles A. Gilman won the election by a margin of 21,027 votes against his foremost opponent Democratic nominee Edward P. Barnum, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor.
