Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 11 March 1902 to elect the members of the state's Legislative Assembly.
This election used contingent voting, at least in the single-member districts.{{cite book|last1=Bowler|first1=Shaun|last2=Grofman|first2=Bernard Norman|doi=10.3998/mpub.16507 |title=Elections in Australia, Ireland, and Malta under the single transferable vote: reflections on an embedded institution |date=2000 |publisher=University of Michigan Press |location=Ann Arbor |isbn=978-0-472-02681-4|page=40|quote= The contingent vote … was used in Queensland from 1892 to 1942 and for Democratic primary elections in the U.S. state of Alabama between 1915 and 1931. It has been used for presidential elections in Sri Lanka since 1978 and in 1996 … the United Kingdom … called it the 'supplementary vote'.}}
Five districts were two-seat districts - Mackay, Marlborough, North Brisbane, Rockhampton and South Brisbane. In the two-member constituencies, plurality block voting was used -- electors could cast two valid votes but were allowed to "plump".Hughes and Graham, "Voting for the Queensland Legislative Assembly 1890-1964" (online) accessed February 20, 2025
Key dates
This was the first Queensland general election to be conducted on a single day. In the past, due to problems of distance and communications, it was not possible to hold the elections on a single day.{{cite web|title=Queensland General Election Dates 1860-1929|url=http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/documents/explore/parliamentaryrecord/sections/Part%202.24.pdf|publisher=Queensland Parliament|accessdate=16 December 2013|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131216062439/http://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/documents/explore/parliamentaryrecord/sections/Part%202.24.pdf|archive-date=16 December 2013|url-status=dead}}
