The 1950 British Empire Games were the fourth staging of what is now called the Commonwealth Games. It was held in Auckland, New Zealand, between 4 and 11 February 1950, after a 12-year gap from the third edition of the games. A documentary film of the games was made by the New Zealand National Film Unit.{{cite web |last1=Martin |first1=Helen |last2=Edwards |first2=Sam |title=New Zealand film, 1912-1996 |url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/work/23627951 |website=Trove |publisher=Auckland ; Melbourne ; Oxford :Oxford University Press |access-date=13 January 2023 |date=1997}} The main venue was Eden Park, although the closing ceremonies were held at Western Springs Stadium, see New Zealand at the 1950 British Empire Games. The fourth games were originally awarded to Montreal, Canada and were to be held in 1942 but were cancelled due to World War II.{{Cite web|url=https://thecgf.com/games/auckland-1950|title=Auckland 1950|website=Commonwealth Games Federation|language=en|access-date=28 December 2019|archive-date=7 April 2018|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180407182635/https://thecgf.com/games/auckland-1950|url-status=dead}}
