The 1962 Dallas Texans season was the third and final season of Lamar Hunt's American Football League (AFL) franchise before its relocation to Kansas City from Dallas.

The Texans won their first AFL championship (and only title in Dallas) when they defeated their intrastate rivals, the two-time defending champion Houston Oilers, 20–17 in double overtime—a game which now stands as the second longest game in pro football history and the longest in AFL history.{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=2nBRAAAAIBAJ&pg=6206%2C1621021 |newspaper=Milwaukee Sentinel |agency=Associated Press |title=Dallas wins in sudden death |date=December 24, 1962 |page=2, part 2 |access-date=January 23, 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160224051959/https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=2nBRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=nBAEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6206%2C1621021 |archive-date=February 24, 2016 |url-status=live }}{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=v2EaAAAAIBAJ&pg=5247%2C1281478 |newspaper=Milwaukee Journal |agency=press dispatches |title=Dallas tips Houston in second overtime |date=December 24, 1962 |page=8, part 2 |access-date=January 23, 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160224004248/https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=v2EaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=1yYEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5247%2C1281478 |archive-date=February 24, 2016 |url-status=live }}
