General elections were held in Jordan on 4 November 1997.Dieter Nohlen, Florian Grotz & Christof Hartmann (2001) Elections in Asia: A data handbook, Volume I, p148 {{ISBN|0-19-924958-X}} They were boycotted by the main opposition parties,Nohlen et al., p151 and saw independents win 75 of the 80 seats. Voter turnout was 44.7%.
