The 1998 U.S. Women's Open was the 53rd edition of the U.S. Women's Open, held July 2–6 at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin.

The champion was Se Ri Pak, the winner of a 20-hole Monday playoff over amateur Jenny Chuasiriporn.{{cite news |url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=m3EaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Zi4EAAAAIBAJ&pg=5640%2C1052892 |newspaper=Milwaukee Journal Sentinel |last=D'Amato |first=Gary |title=From knee deep to sky high for Pak |date=July 7, 1998 |page=C1}} Both age 20, Pak and Chuasiriporn finished the 18-hole playoff round tied at 73, and both parred the first extra hole, a par-5. Pak rolled in an {{convert|18|ft|adj=on}} birdie putt on the 92nd hole of competition to become the youngest woman to win two major championships in the same year.{{cite web |url=http://www.uswomensopen.com/history/pastchamps/1998.html |title=U.S. Women's Open - History – 1998 |access-date=July 31, 2011}}{{cite magazine |url=https://www.si.com/vault/1998/07/13/245988/2020-unflappable-rookie-se-ri-pak-and-easygoing-amateur-jenny-chuasiriporn-both-20-played-20-extra-holes-before-pak-became-the-youngest-us-womens-open-champion|magazine=Sports Illustrated |title=20/20 |first=Jaime |last=Diaz |date=July 13, 1998 |pages=44–5 |access-date=July 31, 2011}}{{cite news|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=cEBPAAAAIBAJ&sjid=kgMEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2322%2C2389123|work=Toledo Blade|location=Ohio|agency=Associated Press|title=Pak is youngest winner|date=July 7, 1998|page=25}} She won her first major, the LPGA Championship, seven weeks earlier.

Pak later had an {{convert|8|ft|adj=on}} birdie putt to win the title outright, but it did not drop. Pak was awarded the winner's share of the prize money on Sunday, prior to the playoff, as Chuasiriporn was an amateur.{{cite web|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=trNRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=jG8DAAAAIBAJ&pg=2122%2C3588600|work=Pittsburgh Post-Gazette|agency=Associated Press|title=40-foot putt forces playoff|date= July 6, 1998|page=C-1}}
