Background
Initially referred to as an EP, Runway would disclose in an interview with DIY Magazine in July 2020 that the EP would delve into "unlocking more of herself". When reflecting on the project, Runway states; "I've had to face myself head on during lockdown. A lot of those sad times and moments I’m scared of will pop up here."{{Cite web|last=Subscribe|title=Tell Your Friends: Bree Runway|url=https://diymag.com/2020/07/20/tell-your-friends-bree-runway-july-2020-interview|access-date=2020-11-11|website=diymag.com|language=en|archive-date=29 October 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201029091156/https://diymag.com/2020/07/20/tell-your-friends-bree-runway-july-2020-interview|url-status=live}} Runway expressed her challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, having to cancel a video shoot for "Damn Daniel" and later creating "quarantine" music videos for the song as well as the next single "Gucci". Composition
Musically, 2000and4Eva is primarily a hip hop and trap-pop mixtape that features elements of rock, reggae, dance, as well as music critics from NPR describing the record as "destructive pop-rap".{{Cite web|date=6 November 2020|title=New Music Friday: The Top 10 Albums Out On Nov. 6 : All Songs Considered|url=https://www.npr.org/2020/11/04/931346365/new-music-friday-the-top-10-albums-out-on-nov-6|access-date=6 November 2020|website=NPR|archive-date=6 November 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201106140837/https://www.npr.org/2020/11/04/931346365/new-music-friday-the-top-10-albums-out-on-nov-6|url-status=live}}
The opening track and first single, "Apeshit", has been described as "dynamic in its clean and precise ability to conjoin two different sounds" and "ultimately bungee[ing] between climatic build-ups and dancefloor breakdowns". The chorus of the song has been described as "calm, with synthy piano strokes and blaring guitar strums" while the verses of the songs "shift into a high energy vogue-style dance beat".{{Cite web|last=Lawson|first=Brianna|date=2020-03-13|title=Bree Runway goes "Apeshit" on latest track|url=https://earmilk.com/2020/03/13/bree-runway-goes-apeshit-on-latest-track/|access-date=2020-11-11|website=EARMILK|language=en-US|archive-date=12 November 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201112213624/https://earmilk.com/2020/03/13/bree-runway-goes-apeshit-on-latest-track/|url-status=live}} The second track, "Little Nokia", has been described as a "predominantly rock song with elements of a sci-fi film's soundtrack"{{Cite web|last=Staff|first=Kelly Nguyen {{!}}|date=2020-11-11|title=Bree Runway creates genre-bending excellence with '2000and4eva'|url=https://www.dailycal.org/2020/11/11/bree-runway-creates-genre-bending-excellence-with-2000and4eva/|access-date=2020-11-11|website=The Daily Californian|language=en-US|archive-date=16 November 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201116193029/https://www.dailycal.org/2020/11/11/bree-runway-creates-genre-bending-excellence-with-2000and4eva/|url-status=live}} and "embellished with roaring guitars that play as a seamless contrast against Bree's slick vocals and seeping harmonies". The third track "ATM", featuring Missy Elliott, is described as an "energetic and bass-heavy collaboration full of confidence and memorable one-liners." "Damn Daniel", a collaboration with Yung Baby Tate, has been described as "90's black-girl pop" with "modern day rap".{{Cite web|date=2020-05-04|title=Bree Runway Runs This|url=https://www.papermag.com/bree-runway-runs-this-2645918257.html?rebelltitem=4#rebelltitem4?rebelltitem=4|access-date=2020-11-11|website=PAPER|language=en|archive-date=12 November 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201112192017/https://www.papermag.com/bree-runway-runs-this-2645918257.html?rebelltitem=4#rebelltitem4?rebelltitem=4|url-status=live}} Lyrically, "Damn Daniel" consists of a back and forth of Runway and Tate rapping from the perspective of "nostalgic sitcom alter egos".{{Cite web|last=Valentine|first=Claire|title=Premiere: Bree Runway Shares Ultra-Fun "Damn Daniel" Video Featuring Yung Baby Tate|url=https://www.nylon.com/entertainment/bree-runway-damn-daniel-yung-baby-tate|access-date=2020-11-11|website=Nylon|language=en|archive-date=16 November 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201116145534/https://www.nylon.com/entertainment/bree-runway-damn-daniel-yung-baby-tate|url-status=live}} The fifth track, "Rolls Royce" is described as "reggae-infused" and Maliibu Miitch collaboration, "Gucci" is a "powerful yet playful anthem that's celebratory with plenty of cheek."{{Cite web|date=2020-07-24|title=Bree Runway Is a Literal Gem in Her New Music Video|url=https://www.papermag.com/bree-runway-maliibu-miitch-2646785670.html?rebelltitem=3#rebelltitem3?rebelltitem=3|access-date=2020-11-11|website=PAPER|language=en|archive-date=18 November 2020|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201118085053/https://www.papermag.com/bree-runway-maliibu-miitch-2646785670.html?rebelltitem=3#rebelltitem3?rebelltitem=3|url-status=live}} "4 Nicole Thea & Baby Reign" is described as "sombre" and where "hurting and healing find its way to the work".
