The 2002 Philippines men's Asian Games basketball team, was a Filipino Asian Games team assembled for the basketball competition on 2002 Asian Games.

Forming the team

The formation of the team was started after FIBA lifted suspension on the Philippine basketball on 2001.{{Cite news |last=Cordero |first=Abac |title=FIBA suspends BAP |url=https://www.philstar.com/sports/2001/06/26/93196/fiba-suspends-bap |work=The Philippine Star}}{{Cite news |last=Cordero |first=Abac |title=FIBA suspends RP |url=https://www.philstar.com/sports/2005/07/05/284978/fiba-suspends-rp |work=The Philippine Star}}

Ron Jacobs was re-hired as head coach. His first task was to form a blueprint of a team that can win the gold medal. He form two pool teams coached by his assistants (RP-Selecta, coached by Jong Uichico; and RP-Hapee, coached Allan Caidic).{{Cite web |date=2023-09-25 |title=Loss at Busan Asian Games in 2002 still lingers with Jong Uichico |url=https://www.espn.ph/basketball/gilas/story/_/id/38491280/loss-busan-asian-games-2002-lingers-jong-uichico |access-date=2024-03-10 |website=ESPN.com |language=en}}

Unfortunately, Jacobs suffered stroke in December 22, 2001.{{Cite web |date=2002-01-11 |title=Big blow as Jacobs suffers a stroke |url=https://www.arabnews.com/node/217420 |access-date=2024-03-10 |website=Arab News |language=en}} But due to slow recovery, and inability to coach, lead assistant Uichico was tasked to coach the team.

The team was considered as the worst sports disappointment in the history of the Philippine sports, as the team didn't won any medal.{{Cite web |title=Asi looks back at horror 2002 Asiad.
