The 2009 Arab League summit was held in Doha, Qatar on March 30, 2009. The Arab League defied the International Criminal Court by giving a "warm welcome" to Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, whom the Court placed on warrant of arrest for war crimes in the Darfur genocide.{{cite news | url = https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/29/AR2009032902507.html | work=The Washington Post | first=Brian | last=Murphy | title=Sudan's Leader Arrives in Qatar | date=March 30, 2009}}

Reactions

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak boycotted the summit amid differences with Qatar stemming from the 2008–2009 Israel–Gaza conflict.{{cite news|title=What is behind Egyptian President Mubarak's absence from Arab Summit?|url=http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-03/29/content_11096352.htm|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090401150007/http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-03/29/content_11096352.htm|url-status=dead|archive-date=April 1, 2009|author=Hu Dandan and Liao Zhenyun|publisher=Xinhua|access-date=February 14, 2014}} Other Arab countries like Saudi Arabia were also hesitant to come to the summit if Iran or Hamas were in attendance (neither of the parties came while the Saudis did).{{citation needed|date=January 2014}}
