A by-election was held in the Dáil Éireann Dublin South constituency in Ireland on Friday, 5 June 2009,{{cite news|url=http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2009/0428/breaking72.htm|title=By-elections set for June 5th|date=28 April 2009|work=The Irish Times|access-date=29 April 2009|archive-date=25 September 2021|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20210925160342/https://www.irishtimes.com/news/byelections-set-for-june-5th-1.839682|url-status=live}} following the death of the Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála (TD) Séamus Brennan on 9 July 2008. As Brennan was a Fianna Fáil TD, that party had the responsibility of deciding when the by-election should take place.
