The 2011 CECAFA Cup was an international football competition consisting of East and Central African national teams. It was the 35th edition of the annual CECAFA Cup. The tournament was hosted by Tanzania for the second consecutive year and seventh time overall.{{cite web|title=CECAFA Challenge cup kicks off November 24|url=http://www.sportsnewsarena.com/?CECAFA-Challenge-cup-kicks-off-November-24.html|publisher=Sports News Arena|access-date=19 October 2011|date=27 September 2011}}
The tournament received Sh823 million (approximately $450,000) sponsorship from Serengeti Breweries Limited which covered the fees of the tournament such as the air tickets of all delegates, accommodations and prize money to name a few.{{cite news|last=Omary|first=Majutmo|title=Cecafa gets Sh823m in Tusker lager brand sponsorship deal|url=http://thecitizen.co.tz/sport/16-football/16718-cecafa-gets-sh823m-in-tusker-lager-brand-sponsorship-deal.html|work=The Citizen |location=Tanzania|date=3 November 2011|access-date=3 November 2011}} The competition was therefore known as the CECAFA Tusker Challenge Cup 2011.
