==Driver changes==

Kimi Räikkönen announced a week before the Grand Prix that he would be missing the final two races of 2013, in order to have back surgery.{{cite news|title=Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen to have back surgery next week|url=http://www1.skysports.com/f1/news/12473/9019244/f1-lotus-driver-kimi-raikkonen-to-have-back-surgery-next-week|access-date=10 November 2013|work=Sky Sports|publisher=BSkyB|date=10 November 2013}} He had wanted to delay the operation until the off-season, but suffered increasing discomfort over the previous races. Räikkönen's decision meant that the previous race was his last race competing for Lotus, having agreed to join Ferrari for the {{F1|2014}} season. His place was taken by Heikki Kovalainen, who signed a two-race deal with the team.{{cite news|title=Lotus agrees deal with Heikki Kovalainen to replace Kimi Raikkonen|url=http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111284|date=13 November 2013|access-date=15 November 2013|first=Jonathan|last=Noble|work=Autosport|publisher=Haymarket Publications}}

==Tyres==

Like the previous United States Grand Prix, tyre supplier Pirelli will bring its orange-banded hard compound tyre as the harder "prime" tyre and the white-banded medium compound tyre as the softer "option" tyre.
