The 2014 FA WSL 1 was the fourth season of the FA WSL, the top-level women's football league of England. The season began on 30 March and ended on 12 October.{{Cite news |title=Fixtures and Results |url=http://www.fawsl.com/matches.html |publisher=FA WSL |date=30 March 2014 |access-date=15 July 2014 |archive-date=8 July 2019 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190708212523/http://www.fawsl.com/matches.html |url-status=live }}

Liverpool L.F.C. are the defending champions from the 2013 FA WSL. The top two teams qualify for the 2015–16 UEFA Women's Champions League.{{Cite news |title=Women's Super League 1 |url=http://www.futbol24.com/national/England/Womens-Super-League-1/2014/ |publisher=FUTBOL 24 |date=20 April 2014 |access-date=27 October 2014 |archive-date=30 November 2017 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20171130134355/http://www.futbol24.com/national/England/Womens-Super-League-1/2014/ |url-status=live }}

Beginning in the 2014 season, the WSL added a second division, the WSL 2. Because the divisions are interconnected, WSL 1 teams face the risk of relegation for the first time in the league's history. There is, however, no connection to the third level Women's Premier League, so WSL 2 teams cannot be relegated.{{Cite news |title= New league structure for women's game for 2014/15 |url= http://www.thefa.com/news/fawsl/2013/nov/new-league-structure-for-womens-game |publisher= The FA |date= 29 November 2013 |access-date= 20 December 2013 |archive-date= 21 December 2013 |archive-url= https://web.archive.org/web/20131221095411/http://www.thefa.com/news/fawsl/2013/nov/new-league-structure-for-womens-game |url-status= live }} WSL 1 consists of eight teams while the WSL 2 is made up of ten.

Starting places in both divisions were granted based on applications sent in by clubs, so Manchester City were able to enter its newly created women's team directly into the WSL 1. The governing body announced it will partially fund teams in the league, awarding £70,000 to clubs in WSL1{{Cite news |title=FA WSL - 2014 Season Expansion |url=http://www.fawsl.com/news/fa_wsl_2014_season_expansion.html |publisher=FA WSL |date=30 October 2013 |access-date=21 December 2013 |archive-date=24 December 2013 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131224115324/http://www.fawsl.com/news/fa_wsl_2014_season_expansion.html |url-status=live }}
