On June 9, 2018, jihadists from Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin attacked Malian forces in the town of Boni, Mali.
Prelude
Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin is a coalition of five jihadist groups that initially rebelled against the Malian government in 2012, before amalgamating in 2017 to form JNIM. Throughout 2018, the group spread across Mali, especially in Gao and Tombouctou regions.{{citation needed|date= October 2023}}
Attack

On the way, a vehicle hit a mine near the village of Dallah. According to the Malian army, the minelayers opened fire and three minelayers were killed in retaliation.
