=Changes from last season=
A total of fifteen clubs were confirmed for the season, same as previous season, but only fourteen competed as Šilutė withdrew 4 days prior to the league's start after an uncompetitive performance in the 2018 Žemaitijos Taurė. Three of them were reserve teams of the A Lyga sides - one less than maximum allowed for the competitions and last season number.{{cite news |title="Šilutė" traukiasi iš Pirmos lygos, atnaujintas pirmenybių tvarkaraštis |url=https://lff.lt/news/4707/ |accessdate=13 December 2018 |publisher=Lithuanian Football Federation |date=20 April 2018 |language=Lithuanian}}{{cite news |title=Keičiasi Pirmos lygos statistikos ir naujienų publikavimo platformos |url=https://lff.lt/news/4714/ |accessdate=13 December 2018 |publisher=Lithuanian Football Federation |date=21 April 2018 |language=Lithuanian}}{{cite web|title=2018 metų LFF A lygos čempionato tvarkaraštis|url=http://lff.lt/files/documents/164/2018%20met%C5%B3%20LFF%20A%20lygos%20%C4%8Dempionato%20tvarkara%C5%A1tis.pdf|publisher=Lithuanian Football Federation|accessdate=25 February 2018|language=Lithuanian|date=25 February 2018}}{{Dead link|date=September 2019 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }}
Utenis were relegated from the 2017 A Lyga and replaced last year champions Palanga. Only the II Lyga South Zone winners NFA were automatically promoted from the lower tier as other eligible teams failed to receive licenses. Finally Kupiškis made their debut in the league after a special permission was given by the Lithuanian Football Federation to compete for a newly created team.{{cite news |title=Pirmos lygos licencijos suteiktos 10 klubų ir komandų |url=https://lff.lt/news/4635/ |accessdate=13 December 2018 |publisher=Lithuanian Football Federation |date=22 February 2018 |language=Lithuanian}}{{cite news |title=Pirmos lygos licencijas gavo 12 klubų |url=https://lff.lt/news/4653/ |accessdate=13 December 2018 |publisher=Lithuanian Football Federation |date=1 March 2018 |language=Lithuanian}}
