The 2018 Telangana Legislative Assembly election was held on 7 December 2018 which marked the second electoral event since the state's formation in 2014.{{cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/kcrs-early-election-gamble-gives-enough-ammo-to-trs/articleshow/66104449.cms|title=KCR's early election gamble gives enough ammo to TRS|website=The Times of India }} Key contenders included the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP).{{cite web|url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/telangana-assembly-election-toi-does-swot-analysis-of-parties-in-fray/articleshow/66821015.cms|title=Telangana elections: TOI does SWOT analysis of parties in fray|website=The Times of India }}
A noteworthy development in the electoral landscape was the formation of the Praja Kutami (People's Alliance), comprising opposition parties such as INC, TDP, CPI and TJS. Despite their collective efforts, they were restricted to 21 seats. The election ultimately reaffirmed the political dominance of TRS, led by K. Chandrashekar Rao, as they secured victory with 88 seats and continued to govern the state of Telangana.{{Cite web | url=https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/in-a-first-tdp-ready-for-alliance-with-congress-to-fight-telangana-election/story-og07X15IM8vPXwGWJNEFCP.html | title=Congress, TDP, Left form grand alliance to fight Telangana election| date=2018-09-11}}
Background
The chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao called for an early election, when he resigned 6 September 2018, nine months before the completion of his term.
Since no other party had a majority, the house was dissolved by the governor and general elections were announced.
This election led to the alliance of TDP and INC, once arch rivals, coming together as part of Praja Kutami for the first time.
