The Nations League Finals was played in a knockout format, consisting of the semi-finals, third place play-off, and final. The semi-final pairings were determined by means of an open draw. Host country Italy was selected among the four qualified teams by the UEFA Executive Committee, with the winners of the final crowned as the champions of the UEFA Nations League. Though originally planned for 2–6 June 2021, the Nations League Finals were moved to October 2021 following the rescheduling of UEFA Euro 2020 to June and July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.{{cite news |url=https://www.uefa.com/news-media/news/025b-0f8e76b585dc-2d8b4cc9af94-1000--resolution-of-the-european-football-family-on-a-coordinated/ |title=Resolution of the European football family on a coordinated response to the impact of the COVID-19 on competitions |website=UEFA |publisher=Union of European Football Associations |date=17 March 2020 |access-date=17 March 2020}}{{cite web |url=https://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Download/competitions/WorldCup/02/64/22/19/2642219_DOWNLOAD.pdf |title=European Qualifiers: FIFA World Cup – Qualifying draw procedure |website=UEFA |publisher=Union of European Football Associations |format=PDF |date=18 June 2020 |access-date=18 June 2020}}{{cite web |url=https://www.uefa.com/news-media/news/0261-107376966207-6a2ea096698b-1000/ |title=Two triple-headers approved for 2021 March and September national team windows |work=UEFA |date=24 September 2020 |access-date=24 September 2020}}
