The 2020 Trophée des Champions ({{trans|2020 Champions Trophy}}) was the 25th edition of the French super cup. The match was contested by the 2019–20 Ligue 1 champions and 2019–20 Coupe de France winners Paris Saint-Germain, and the Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille.{{Cite web|title=Paris récupère sa Coupe de France après un match plus haché que sexy|url=https://www.20minutes.fr/sport/football/2828503-20200724-psg-asse-paris-recupere-coupe-france-apres-match-plus-hache-sexy|date=25 July 2020|access-date=27 July 2020|website=www.20minutes.fr|language=fr}}{{Cite web|date=26 July 2020|title=Le Trophée des champions PSG - OM en… janvier ?|url=https://www.eurosport.fr/football/trophee-des-champions/2019-2020/le-trophee-des-champions-psg-om-en.-janvier_sto7816669/story.shtml|language=fr|access-date=27 July 2020|website=Eurosport}}

The match marked the 99th time Classique rivals Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille played against each other and the second time in the Trophée des Champions, after their first meeting in 2010.

Paris Saint-Germain were the seven-time defending champions. They won the match 2–1 for their tenth Trophée des Champions title.{{Cite web |url=https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/MATCH-REPORTS/2021/01/13/neymar-and-icardi-fire-pochettino-to-first-title |title=Neymar and Icardi fire Pochettino to first title |website=ligue1.com |publisher=Ligue de Football Professionnel |date=13 January 2021 |access-date=13 January 2021}}

The match was televised live on the new French joint venture TF1-Mediapro's football channel Téléfoot and other international broadcasters throughout several countries as the part of the four-year LFP broadcasting rights package contracts.{{Cite web|title=Mediapro s'offre les multiplex de Ligue 1, le Trophée des champions et les barrages - Foot - L1|url=https://www.lequipe.fr/Medias/Actualites/Mediapro-s-offre-les-multiplex-de-ligue-1-le-trophee-des-champions-et-les-barrages/1092164|date=20 December 2019|access-date=27 July 2020|website=L'Équipe|language=fr}}

Host selection

In February 2020, the LFP evokes three venues for hosting the 2020 Champions Trophy to take place originally on 1 August 2020, such as: both venues at the outside France (Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire and Minneapolis in USA) and Bordeaux in France.{{Cite web|title=Trois pistes pour le Trophée des champions 2020 : Abidjan, Minneapolis ou... la France - Foot - T. champions|url=https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Trois-pistes-pour-le-trophee-des-champions-2020-abidjan-minneapolis-ou-la-france/1108830|access-date=3 August 2020|website=L'Équipe|language=fr}}

For the first time since 2008, a French Super Cup match was held in France.

=Impact of COVID-19 pandemic=

The decision for host venue was originally to be taken in the spring but the three cities were not chosen due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the match was postponed to January 2021.{{Cite web|last=SPORT|first=RMC|title=PSG: vers un Trophée des champions contre l'OM en janvier 2021|url=https://rmcsport.bfmtv.com/football/psg-vers-un-trophee-des-champions-contre-l-om-en-janvier-2021-1953774.html|access-date=3 August 2020|website=RMC SPORT|language=fr}}
