The 2021 Formula Nordic season will be the ninth season of the single-seater championship, and the third independent of the STCC branding, following the formation of the series' association in the wake of the STCC promoter's bankruptcy in 2018.{{cite web|date=6 February 2019|title=STCC AB declare bankruptcy, new body to run Swedish series|url=https://www.touringcartimes.com/2019/02/06/stcc-ab-declare-bankruptcy-new-body-run-swedish-series/|access-date=11 February 2021|website=Touring Car Times}}{{cite web|title=Archive - Formula Nordic 2019|url=https://www.formulanordic.se/arkiv/arkiv2019/|access-date=11 February 2021|publisher=Formula Nordic|language=sv}}
Formula Nordic continues to use the previous Formula Renault 1.6 chassis and engines, as it used to go under the name of Formula Renault 1.6 Nordic before Renault Sport dropped its support for the 3.5 and 1.6 classes in late 2015.
The season will begin on 18 June at Skellefteå Drivecenter Arena, and will conclude on 9 October at Ring Knutstorp after seven rounds.{{cite web|url=https://www.formulanordic.se/okategoriserade/formula-nordic-2021/|title=Formula Nordic 2021|last=Gustavsson|first=Bengt-Åce|date=20 November 2020|access-date=6 March 2021|publisher=Formula Nordic|language=sv}} This season marked the start of a three season deal with Yokohama as the series' tyre supplier.{{cite web|url=https://www.formulanordic.se/okategoriserade/yokohama-blir-ny-dackleverantor-i-formula-nordic/|title=Yokohama blir ny däckleverantör i Formula Nordic|date=4 December 2020|access-date=27 April 2021|publisher=Formula Nordic|language=sv}}
