=Summary=

Westmeath became the inaugural winners of the Tailteann Cup, scoring 1–4 without reply in the final 13 minutes to take the trophy.{{cite news|url=https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/westmeath-win-inaugural-tailteann-cup-as-late-goal-sinks-cavan-41827448.html|title=Westmeath win inaugural Tailteann Cup as late goal sinks Cavan|publisher=Irish Independent|first=Michael|last=Verney|date=9 July 2022|accessdate=9 July 2022|archive-date=9 July 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220709195131/https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/westmeath-win-inaugural-tailteann-cup-as-late-goal-sinks-cavan-41827448.html|url-status=live}}

A red card for Cavan's Thomas Galligan in the 58th minute was the turning point of the game. Cavan were leading by two, 1–13 to 1–11, when Galligan caught Westmeath's Ronan O'Toole with a high frontal shoulder. O'Toole went on to be the man-of-the-match.{{cite news|url=https://www.the42.ie/westmeath-cavan-tailteann-cup-final-5812569-Jul2022/|title=Westmeath crowned inaugural Tailteann Cup champions after late flurry against Cavan|publisher=The 42|first=Kevin|last=O'Brien|date=9 July 2022|accessdate=9 July 2022|archive-date=9 July 2022|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220709195144/https://www.the42.ie/westmeath-cavan-tailteann-cup-final-5812569-Jul2022/|url-status=live}}
