On November 20, 2023, a Boeing P-8A Poseidon operated by the United States Navy overran the runway and ditched into the Kāneʻohe Bay. All nine crew members evacuated the aircraft and swam to shore, uninjured. Aircraft

The aircraft involved was a Boeing P-8A Poseidon, registered as 169561 with serial number 66094. Accident

The military aircraft touched down on runway 22 with a tailwind of 21 knots. Before recovery, oil containment booms, which control the spread of oil, had been set up around the Poseidon. On December 2, a team of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and some contractors successfully recovered the Poseidon using inflatable salvage roller bags. The Poseidon is currently being inspected to determine whether it can be restored to operational condition or if it should be deemed a write-off.
